Found some cool pictures - M944A1 SEORTM

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't logged on in quite some time. I thought I would share a photo of my M944A1 that I operated while stationed in Baumholder Germany. We were setting it up right before we started putting up the camo netting. I gave my platoon leader trouble about the...

Just Got home a M944A1 and need some advice

Per TM 9-4940-560-14&P set the vernier governor control to 1225 rpm. You will need to fine tune the engine rpm to get 60Hz out of the alternator. Make sure engine rpms are correct and you are getting proper voltage at 60HZ so that you don't burn up anything (especially electric motors). Every...

    Grease type?

While in Germany from 92-95, my unit switched from using G.A.A. to the red aviation grease (high temp) on everything from 5ton on up.

    M88A2 Hercules APU

I don't know about the APU in the Hercules model, they just started fielding them when I was getting out. On the A1 the starter generator is the same as what is used on the 4.2Kw 28Vdc gen sets.

    M170 Driver and Passenger Seats/Frames

Yes seats are very hard to come by. I have a 62 M170 that is also missing the seats (long with all ambulance specifics). I doubt that CJ6 seats would work since the CJ6 uses basically the same fuel tank as the CJ5/M38A1.

    M944A1 Mobile Shop Civilian Conversion

From the pictures it looks like to PowCon welder, Had the PowCon welder in my truck while stationed in Germany, it's a good welder (both arc and mig). as stated, watch the wing hinges, lifting cylinders, and hydraulic pumps for lifting the wings. The heater on the 944A1 is 100,000 BTU and will...

    .

I had to do the MWO to mount the axles and MICLIC boxes onto the trailers for my unit when I was stationed in Germany. One thing to watch on these trailers is the brakes. If they come from mechanized units then they were most likely towed behind M113's. The brakes would get messed up trailer...

    School me on the Mep-025

All of the 28VDC 3Kw and 4.2Kw generators that I dealt with while in the Army were used to power communication equipment without having to run the vehicle engine such as HMMWV's with radio shelters and M577's. We used the 3Kw gen sets with the radio shelters and the 4.2Kw gen sets with the M577's.

    m923 vs. m923a1

It's been many years since I worked on 5 Tons but IIRC tires are the only difference. The M923's and M923A1's that we had in Germany both topped out at 62MPH (governed). My M944A1 (adjustable governor) would top out at 90+ (or so my 1st SGT said):D

    Lost all lights - scary!

I had the high/low switch go out on a M818 while in a convoy at night. Hit a bump and no headlights, hit another bump and lights back on. Check both the 3 lever switch and the high/low switch.

Welding using the deuce as a power supply

Welding using a vehicle was/is in the Battle Damage/Assessment and Repair manual using a slave cable and clamps or heavy duty jumper cables. We would use a M88 for this (usually used the APU) since it has more batteries. Jamesfrom180 is correct, it will ruin a set of batteries if used too much...

    N Scale train

Yes everything is HEAVY! I never worked on any rolling stock or engines while assigned to my first unit but did work on the track. Watching the guys work on the rolling stock and engines made me glad to pound spikes
