I was unloading my M936, high gear, reverse, and boom.. transfer case blown... cracked right down the middle. 1. What did I do wrong? 2. Where do I find the model number as I search for a new one? Thanks a lot.
Patriot-of-many gets the prize!!!!
It was the elbow. So... I go down to NAPA and they have an elbow, but not one with screens. I got that one... what is up with the screens and any idea on where I get one?
Oh... two more shout-outs to Suprman for suggesting to troubleshoot by bypassing the...
Not yet... I am going back out this weekend.
What supplies am I going to need to bypass the shutterstat? (Is that what the TM is calling the fan clutch thermostat?)
Well... thanks to the 98% of you who have given me very helpful answers.
I was 90% confident that it is a Cummins 8.3 L turbo inline 6 diesel engine with 240 hp... thank you hellmutt for confirming that.
What I did not catch was that that particular engine does not have lockup bolts for the...
Bypass shutterstat... OK
Regarding the engine....
It is a 1990 BMY M936A2 6x6 Wrecker with a Cummins 6 Cylinder Turbo Diesel Engine.
Which engine does that give it?
Hey guys...
My M936 is overheating. I noticed that the fan is not turning.
So... I guess I need a new fan clutch and, in the mean time, install the clutch override lockup bolts as discussed in the TM.
Can one of you give me some direction on replacing the clutch?
Thanks,
Thanks guys for the direction. I had to leave the truck in the field for a few days.... the 14.00R20 just magically blew out on the side wall... I will be able to get back to it next week and let you know what worked.
Ok... that was the point I was trying to make... but doing a poor job....
When I push the Transmission Power Takeoff Control Lever forward (or disengage it to neutral) , when the transfer case is in gear....
and I select a gear... 1 to 1-5, the truck "jolts" and dies.
It runs just fine if I...
Hey Guys...
I have just purchased a M936A2 Wrecker from Ft. Hood.
You guys have been a huge help.
My next question is about the Transmission Power Takeoff Control Lever. It seems like mine does not act like the TM suggests.
First, when I first got the truck the control lever was engaged...
You guys take the prize. Exactly correct. I had the transfer case in neutral... which is where it needs to be to run the rear. Tcase needs to be in low or high.
Thanks very much.
Now that this is solved, I have id'd some more problems.... like, with tcase in high, I needed the gear selector...
OK, sandcobra... so, to engage the PTO, you are suggesting that the The transfer case shift lever should be engaged (either in high or low)??
I am going to go check that right now.. Yes... it has been in neutral which is the appropriate position to engage the rear.
I did.
I have tried these combos:
Transmission selector (gear) lever is Neutral AND transmission power takeoff control lever disengaged (forward) - Engage PTO: Grinding
Transmission selector (gear) lever is Neutral AND transmission power takeoff control lever engaged (back) - Engage PTO...
...OK.. a little more flavor if you guys have time... so, seems that I can't get the PTO engaged if the truck is running. If I kill the truck... I can engage the PTO, and then start the truck... and the PTO shaft spins like a little top....
What do you think my problem is if I can't get...
Thanks to all for the replys... still grinding. Here are the steps the TM says:
4. Engage power takeoff by pulling back on PTO control lever (Page 0016-8)
NOTES: This is the grinding point
5. Pull up on parking brake handle to engage parking brake. Place transmission selector lever (Figure...
