where are all the wisconsin trucks at???

Sounds fun! I'd bring the 1009 out. I'm just over in Waunakee now.

Changing M1009 Rear Ratio from 3.08 to 2.73

I don't know how much better mpg you will get with a 1009. I've heard guys claim high 20's with a 6.2L w/ 2wd 2.73 gears, and 5 speed manual. A Cummins in a K5 would be pretty awesome. Everyone says it would be too heavy, but they work in C/K pickups just fine. It would just need heavier-duty...

Changing M1009 Rear Ratio from 3.08 to 2.73

Well first off you would have to change both the front and rear ring and pinions, drive-line bind can happen with different ratios. You would probably be better off getting a set of 33" tires, you shouldn't need a lift to fit 33's. It'll be about $500 for two sets of ring and pinions, and...

    Diesel additives

I agree, I haven't seen anyone who has gotten better mpg's, cooler EGT's, or more miles out of the engine by using diesel fuel additives. The only real reason to add anything to the fuel, except to provide a little extra lubrication, is need-based. Like for winter treatment, if you live in a...

    Diesel additives

^^I third this. I also use some of the Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement (white bottle) in the winter, in addition to the 2-stroke oil.

    18" wheels for my M1009?

I don't think you'll find too many 18" steel wheels, unless you get some custom made. You may be able to find some 18" alloy wheels from newer Chevy/GMC trucks. Bolt pattern is the same, but the backspacing is different. So you would need spacers. I would think that for what you could sell them...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

    m1009 manual glow plug switch

Glad the manual switch fixed your problem! I would guess it's one or both of those things. Could also be a busted wire, bad ground, corrosion on a connection. Guess you wouldn't really know unless you test the temp sensor and controller card. :shrugs:

    m1009 manual glow plug switch

Bad warm starts are usually not glow plug related. Does the glow plug solenoid clunk when you turn the key on, or does the wait light come on when it's warm? The temperature sensor for the glow plug module can go bad and could cause some slow starting issues if the engine is luke-warm. Sounds...

1984 m1028 fender trimming and tires?

Those 9.00x16's look awesome! They give the 1008 even more of a military look.

What Oil and Filter do you use?

I used the Delco 1218 a couple times in my 1009 (I bought a few with my employee discount when I worked at a GM dealer a few years ago). They are good filters, but as was mentioned they are nearly an inch shorter than comparable filters. I use Wix or Napa Gold filters on all my vehicles. A Fram...

    M1009 color combination idea...

I would love a tan interior in my 1009. DO IT!!! :-)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I pulled my roommate's super stuck car out of a parking lot with my 1009 today. Deep heavy snow over the top of water and slush. It was a good time, the 1009 was a beast. And she bought me lunch as payment :) Unfortunately no pics :( I also, bought new wiper blades... my passenger side broke...

    CUCV suburban?, or converted. PICS

It's definitely a clone. But it is really awesome! It could have easily been an Air Force truck at one point, they used a ton of them with every engine option you could get in a civi Suburban. But they were stock Suburbans with a government data plate, no 24v systems/B.O...
