I redid a MEP003A 5+ years ago. Fresh rebuilt engine, new gen head...many other new parts. I had it running...making electricity. Then it has just sat. Anyone not real far away from se Iowa know these machines well and be interested in doing the fine tuning?
theyr're still holding fuel...nasty, stinky fuel. Acouple years ago I had a leaky tank on a MEP003a. I took it to a tank repair place in Pella, IA. Still doing great...but dang....cost me around $275. :-(
Another question comes to mind. Are there different rims available for these trailers? I would really like smaller diameter rims...and get rid of the *#@* split rims.
Scored 2 mep003a's on trailer today. Look good...but...they have been sitting out in Iowa weather for 10+ years. Cleaning fuel tanks..changing filters. changing oil and filter. Anyone know filter #'s off top of head?
I was able to get one engine to turn by prying generator thru the perforated...
I filtered WMO to 10 micron. 5 gal of WMO to about 30 gal of homebrew biodiesel. Felt like the Powerstroke ran better. 1999 Ford F250. BUT...twice it began smoking excessively. I quit using WMO and began adding seafoam and some other fuel injector cleaner products. Both times it took a while to...
Learning continues...arrgghhh... working on getting the Starter Lockout Switch adjusted. I followed the directions f. Got adjusting screw adjusted as instructed....started engine...diconnected wiring harness and adjusted set screw at .040. Turned unit off...reconnected wiring harness...
I was not getting any charge to the batteries. I swapped in a new DC regulator today and now batteries are getting a charge. This is the 2nd one I have had to replace in a 'fresh' rebuilt Melton engine.
When I took one of the other units I had to the electric motor shop, I was hoping they had an alternative to that VR....something more modern...more 'forgiving' if unit idled....but they had nothing
Got the 'new' circuit board in..fired it up...have ran it for 5 min or so...looking great!! Now..back to battery charging system...arrgghhh. getting 24.8 at the batteries...and it is holding. Thinking if it was working right, it should have started going up in the time I ran it. Got a new...
After the transformer swap, I fired it up...went well until small wisps of smoke on circuit board. CR7, CR8, and CR9 are fried. This was a MEP002a box going onto a MEP003a. I am now swapping in the MEP003a board. Is possible the frying transformer might have caused these resistors(?) to fry?
YES!!!!!!!!!!! It is a real pain lining up these bolt holes. I also took a sharpie marker and marked hole locations on flywheel and 'flexplate'. Also...have a magnet on a handle available for fishing a dropped bolt out of the bottom of the gen head!! I had one bolt drop and bounce back...
