Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but...
Locally I can fill up one of the 20 pound LPG tanks (aka the common BBQ grill tanks) for just shy of $10. That's almost 5 gallons of LPG @ about $2/gallon. Now consider that diesel is twice that cost... it works out.
Many truck stops /gas stations that...
Count yourself lucky that the first vehicle you bought with the intention of doing your own wrenching is a thoroughly documented Chevy truck with an avid following! I made the mistake of picking something somewhat less... accessible (a full size van).
IIRC there are two of them on a 6.2 detroit vehicle - they're metal and run the length of the vehicle to the tank, above and below the larger diameter fuel feed line. At least that's what I think they are - they're present on both my 6.2 vehicles, and fuel comes out when they break. :)
How far forward in the passenger tub did you put the dampening - to the base of the firewall panel, or all the way up (taking the dash off to do so)? I figure I've got to redo all the wiring behind the dash, might as well put the insulation in at the same time if it'll do any good...
TechnoWeenie, I'm interested in hearing how well (eg. related to a 'normal' modern vehicle, maybe) it dampens sound. I've heard/found that most of the road noise actually comes from the rear...
TechnoWeenie, nicely done! Did you stretch the carpet, or did you have pre-shaped/stretched pieces to install? I really need to get some sound dampening into mine, but I'm not sure what I'm going to for carpet yet and I'm hesitant to try stretching myself.
Squirted some grease into the zerks, probably the first time that's been done in 25 years! :P Surprised by how few zerks there were, but it was still enough to take most of the 'small' marine grease tubes.
Changed out the oil with some Rotella 15W and replaced the filter. She was a bit overdue...
Wind chill does indeed have an impact on things which are not living: wind chill temperature is the temperature cooling equivalent sans wind. In other words, -30F means that the wind is cooling the environment at a rate equivalent to an ambient -30F temperature, even if it's only 10F outdoors...
Mine has had the relay bypassed, I think, with all the fancy electric stuff pulled out (just like my G30) - I've got a manual switch I flick for GP.
The M1009 I've started down to -10F without any assistance from a block heater, etc. except an hour or two with 60W battery heaters. The...
I use the 'extra' ignition spade connector slot in the fuse block as well. That goes to an inline fuse, which then goes directly to the pump. This way I get fuel to the engine even if I've parked uphill (though I have to let it sit for a while to push back up).
I've noticed the same thing in my 6.2l van. 500lb-800lb (or maybe more, not really sure) of stuff in the rear, for some reason, makes the engine sing a more even tune and feel a little happier.
The ride is better, too, naturally. ;)
