"OK, now I'm curious: what the heck were you doing that you managed to roll an M37 - and more than once?"
Playing.
When not playing, I used the 37 and the Piper Cub for Search and Rescue.
Back around 50 or 60 years ago, I built a hardtop for my 37 by wrapping a softtop frame and bow with 12ga steel, using a sliding back window out of a Duece.
It was strong enough to serve as a roll bar without significant damage when I rolled the truck (which I did more than once).
But it was so...
An old post, but for those who might be considering a 318 in their M37, when I went from a 230 to a 318 back around 1967-1968, my mileage went from 11 to 13 mpg. A couple of years later, I switched to a big block Chevy engine, and it went back to 11.
Here's an old photo of my 37.
It was my first vehicle - my foster brother gave it to me as a birthday present in 1962.
Paint needs a bit of touchup....
Time to refurbish.
And yes, I did put twin headlights on it 😁
I'd also like to mount a set of Irok Super Swampers.
I tend to like tall narrow...
I initially put a 318 in mine. Ran it that way for several years. Mileage increased from 11 to 13.
Then, back in the early 70s I switched to a Big Block Chevy.
Mileage went back to 11, but it was worth it. Running a Detroit Automotive KS-22 No-Spin differential in the rear pumpkin. Sure...
"The XM708 is a rare beast, it would be splendid to see it done up".
I agree. Ten years ago, I think there were 14 of them left. I don't know how many now. My 37 has an LU-4 winch. I'm in the midst of overhauling an LU-4 for the 708.
The 37 has a big block Chevy engine; the 708 is stock...
I'm still here.
Still got my M37 and XM708.
After 60+ years, I'm thinking it may be time to refurb them and give them to my two grandkids.
And yeah, I know that left front tire on the 708 is mounted backwads 😀
Probably no harder on the axle shafts than the big block Chevy that I put in my 37 about 45 years ago.
The bbc has given the 37 a considerable improvement in driveability in the mud, and axles have not been a problem so far, knock wood.
I would hope that the 400 would have a similar effect...
I tend to like the tread design on the IROKs for sentimental reasons. They remind me of the old directional Firestone Super All-Tractions I used to run.
I'm having trouble deciding between the I-810 (13.5x39.5-16.5) and the I-815 (14x42-16.5).
Any thoughts about choice regarding clearance...
There were 192 built. 11 that still exist (maybe 12). I've owned this one for 42 years. Both are reasons why I specified a completely reversible installation.
