So i have done the same thing on a 12v system so lets try to walk this through together. There is not much inline between your battery and starter. I think your biggest issue will be the hump for the transmission.. This was pretty easy and quick and i've loved every minute.

I have some electrical know how but I'm not the greatest. I've never seen the gauge work.. i've had the ground pulled on the sender and it doesn't effect the gauge.. so it could be the sender as well.. but I'm not ready to drop the tank this week.. could I Jerry rig a battery or something like...

As I've read that thread as well because I googled it for 12 hours today. They had the sender pulled. That is also not for the same vehicle.

I've got my glow plugs on a switch and if you dont know the location.. after its been parked its not gunna fire.... Although your gunna get a chewed up flexplate/starter its not gunna move. You could also put a switch infront of the fuel pump and it will only go so far.. thats the adam carolla...
