    m998 3 amp battery drain question/help

If unplugging the control box makes the draw go away then it is the prime suspect. The alternator is the "dumb" load in the circuit (which I believe you already know) like the light bulb that stays on when the switch is definitely off (because the switch is bad inside). It's where the draw...

    39/809 clutch suggestion

I would love to find a "better" trans that would be more highway friendly. I would LOVE to update / upgrade to an automated 10 spd. but I don't think anybody has ever mated one to a dinosaur nhc, at least not anybody that is on the international look what I did internet channel. If I had...

    39/809 clutch suggestion

71Deuce, I hope I'm not speaking out of turn but shifting a 5 ton that is empty is "easy". This thread is more about when the rig is being used at or near max. capacity. If you've never driven with a manual trans. then yes, there is a learning curve involved but the bigger curve is learning...

    39/809 clutch suggestion

Saw this yesterday and didn't have time to reply. Good tip but I thought everyone did this as S.O.P. Guess using the clutch pedal just for starting and stopping unless some unusual situation occurs is how I learned 100 years ago ( and THOSE trannys were NOT synchronized ). I did use it...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, time for the next installment of "The Schmuck Did Nothing Worthwhile". That being said, I really just wanna beat the Deuce Boys (and girls) to 800 pages of thread. Sooooo, this week Exit Strategy received an "upgrade" to the residential electrical system. I changed out the 100' 16/3...

    Checking wheels for defects

Now THAT woulda made a cool lamp for the Man-cave. Deflate the tire ( if it still had pressure ), mount a defunct M1 Garand upright and put a Steel Pot on top for a lamp shade.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Cobra, Can't wait to get my brakes reliable again. She sooooo wants to roll out but I just can't trust her yet. At least I can listen to my Cummins hum while sitting still.

    Cross Country in an M820

hethead, you're a much braver man than I and you have my admiration. My GPS kept trying to put me on 95 but I swore I was NOT going anywhere near that rolling disaster area in a vehicle that topped out at 60 m.p.h. downhill with a tailwind ( I still have the stock 11.00 - 20s ). Glad your...

    replacement 6.2

On what are you basing your post ? a GM 6.2 is a GM 6.2 no matter what it's in. The "problem" is the accessories, not the engine itself. Eastern is a very good, reputable company. Just wondering where the info came from on your side. I gotta start reading to the end before throwing in...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Went around the rig with a can of Berkebile PFC. Sprayed everything that pivots or rotates that doesn't have a grease Zerk. Found this product at work (parts store). It's "active" ingredient is a lanolin wax (insert sheep joke here). It does NOT wash out. Got my hood "safety" latches freed...
