Great Info!
I used a Rustoleum spray paint...
I got my starter and solenoid at O'Reillys - it was about $200. With my M1008 I didn't even need a lift or jackstand - it was in and out in about 45 minutes.
Next chapter... turned truck off - checked fluids, tranny low, added tranny fluid, repeated process. This time some sparks came from the solenoid (can a solenoid work part time?)
The other possibility is one of the wires is touching something on the frame, I will get mirror and look.

***update*** I put the starter back in and made a bridge (correct term?) from the starter wire off the solenoid, hooked everything back up and touched that wire to the battery (first one), It started! It actually started better than it ever has.

The smoke wisp came from a two wires crimped together. It was the wire from the alt to the junction box. I saw it melt while I cut the batt cables. Having removed it, the...
Hello all,
I had all the parts for the Doghead Relay in my truck. Unfortunately, "when" happened. My starter relay got stuck. Fortunately, I had a pair of branch trimmers nearby and cut the battery cables.
I saw a wisp of smoke come from Gen 1 (alternator on the driver's side) and from...
I think part of it is knowing what to search for and how to search for it. I have made a, "my lights dont work post" in panic and frustration of not knowing how to articulate what the problem is. Thankfully, folks have been patient and given directions on the problem and links to other posts...
Found it!
It is from my rite of passage post of my lights not working
