I used expanding foam and not had any problems with any moisture unless you poke holes in it 7 years now. I know the matting retains water however heat from the engine will dry just about anything. Beside they use the expanding foam in boats for bouyancy.
Mine also did this I re-urethaned and also used great stuff expanding foam amazing how much quieter and the foam really sticks filled in the holes let dry and trimmed 2 years now

Was really impressed with my 1008 we got the snow storm and it did amazing!!! Where others could go no more we kept moving along I know my Jeep Wrangler would not have made the trip with the fat tires really impressed me. even got to work on time.
