    Canadian members and their Vehicles.

Edmonton, alberta here...currently the only mv i own is an m-1010. the yard described above is next to the union hall i belong to.last year he had 4 or 5 iltis for sale in various levels of condition.havn't been by the place in months it's not really a "yard" per-se...he seems to be...

To Rebuild or not to Rebuild TH400

what problems did you experience?...could be something really simple.and cheap to fix.

To Rebuild or not to Rebuild TH400

pulling it yourself saves huge coin...i watched a competent tech tear down a complete 4l80 in 35 minutes.it was rebuilt 3 hours later.a thm-400 is about the easist auto trans to rebuild yourself. nothing fancy inside.does the 1400 include removal/install? and a new torque? if it includes both...

    Leece-Neville 100A Alternator

built for low rpm... true, there are more compact units avaiable...but the leece neville puts out fairly high current at low rpm's.something like 45 amps at idle iirc.the m-1010 uses a pully with 1 groove.a 2 groove pully should be adequate at full load.a large alt should run a lot cooler under...

    Suspension Lift on M1010

m-1010 replied to your pm...which is rare.shamefully,i tend to lurk more than participate.this means i only log on every 2 weeks or so. cool...another m-1010.and lifted yet.your tires should fit fine with that lift.maybe a little trim here and there at full flex.i can say that crossover...

    Sandblaster fresh air supply?

hmmm... here's a scenario...youv'e set yourself up with a sandblast/paint booth made out of a sea-can.your painting with,say,carc...your'e at the back of the can and the homebuilt breathing gear takes a crap...can you make it out with the mask on? I train about once a year for supplied air use...

    M1028 Trans switch from TH400 to 4L80E

sure... A nice easy to instal 700r is all good until it blows up.a 1/2 ton trans, even a built one,has no place in a one ton. recently,i had a chance to use a "manumatic"...manual shifted 4l-80.real easy to use.it was in a drag car,but i really can see the use in an off-roader...no need to back...

    Almost ready....

what happened? Bump... enquiring minds want the skinny on the carnage...a friend is wanting to go with a 700r in his pickup.i'm trying to turn him from the dark side. A local Sith Lord (trans shop owner)is convinced he can build him a 700 that"can take anything"...all for 2800 bucks...

    Almost ready....

arrg! Man...that blows.i hate to say it,but...welcome to 700r land. but you know what?when i got my 4l80 to work and went for a test run,i didn't realize that i had a blocked cooler line...melted the o/d planetarie pack.had to pull the whole thing and have it stripped down and repaired.when...

    M1028 Trans switch from TH400 to 4L80E

fairly easy... it's very doable with a little planning. remember that the cucv body style was available in the one-ton civvy trucks until late 91',and the 4l80 was available with the 6.2 in that year only for this body style. iv'e done this swap, and it's a really good way to get overdrive...

    Almost ready....

ready? I thought i was ready too...guess what? we should place bets...i predict 5 days to completion and 8 part runs. i hope you thought of the shift linkage... good luck on the swap.

    finally found one...

right... ...you wouldn't be envious if you had to pay for it... industrial 4b's can be found up here every so often.but the cost to re-equip them for road use is prohibitive.so i had to pony up for the road version...much easier than spending the next year scrounging for things like...

    finally found one...

searched for months, and had to drive 3.5 hours to get it,but i now have my winter project for the m-1010. 4-bta,complete with adapter, wave ring, mounts,a trans i don't need, and an updated lift pump.it's a ve pump, but p-pumps for a 4b are really rare up here.

Gas burning to trash burning generators

like wood gas? look up wood gas generators on wikipedia...suspect a similar setup.burning trash in a zero/low oxygen chamber (pyrolisis?)to produce syn-gas...a mix of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.with an engine setup for it,it will burn readily. another setup, uses the waste heat from exaust to...

    Emergency shutdown

positive air valve... If your totally spooked about it,you can try and pick up a positive air shut-down valve...it's basically a flapper valve(guilotine style) that is spring loaded, and trips when a cable is pulled or a solinoid is switched. we have to have them on all our diesel equipment...

    M1008 - What Exhaust?

exaust... in addition to the post above...i'm now thinking of adding a crossover.the reason being, with single pipes on each side, you seem to get a "popping" on hard throttle. it's not objectionable,really...just not my personal preference.the drone people refer to is that low pitched buzz that...

    Transmission Cooler Lines

try a soft line... if you have no luck, you might consider a flexible hydraulic line instead of a hard line. when i swapped transmissions i had the same problem.no stock lines to be had,and a real pita to bend up new ones. the fittings you need are 5/16 male, inverted flare fittings.this fits...

    M1010 Recovery

ick... Not much left is there? the reason the axles are gone is obvious...dana 60 and a 14-bolt with a locker.it was likely one with real low miles.so likely a real good front clip for a k-30 rebuild. stripped for cheap and left to die... :(
