generally the minimum...
as a general rule, thats the least lift you can run with crossover.iv'e got a little over an inch and a half clearance at the spring.you might get away with a little less lift if you measure carefully.
interesting...
seems odd then...when i first removed the sensor, the glow plug system seemed to want to act up a bit.i never really noticed at the time, but later when i drove it more often (stop-start in town) the glows wanted to cycle even when the engine was warm.
now with the sensor...
Finally got a free day to install my crossover setup from northwest fab.everything went well except the tie rod was 2 inches to long...a trim with a zip wheel and all was well.
al thats left is a test drive and some means to install the steering stabalizer.
31's...
imhop...a pair of group 31's will work rather well.i have a pair and they spun the engine over briskly down to minus 20*c last winter.oddysey's are apparently very good for cold starting...but bring your wallet.
probe position...
various persons have told me that the best spot for a temp sender is the factory location...the left head at the front.ccattlett pointed out to me that this spot on the cucv's holds the sender for the glow plug system.i put the glow plug temp sender in a block off plate i...
Said i'd post some pics on my guage install...
guages are 2-1/16" autometer shortsweep electrics.model #2634 for oil and #2635 for water.the empty cup is for an as yet to be installed pyro (mod # 2634).
the cups are dash mount,2-1/16",model # 2204,in black.
The oil pressure sensor was tapped...
post later...
will take some pics and post tomorrow.as for the sender,i removed the stock non functioning one from the left front, drivers side head.
didn't know if that sender did anything at all.cut the wire (green,on mine) and everything functioned normally.both hot and cold starts.the new...
lots...
about 3 inches...very close to what it was originally.the fan itself,by the way,is a little further away from the rad.the reason being that the original fan had a hub with a slighty dished mounting surface...this,i think, must have been by design to clear the extra length of the lower...
get a k model...
If you go the 700r route, get a later k model 700...identified by the large letter K on the belhousing.as mentioned, stay away from the early ones.if you intend to tow or use the 700 hard off road, you'll have to spend some bucks to get it properly built.it's not the strongest...
changed fan clutch today, installed a 7-blade fan while i was in there.
if any one is curious, the fan mounting holes measure thusly (with a measuring tape...not super precise but really close)
mounting hole center to center...2-9/32"
mounting hole center to center diagonal...3-1/4"
fan center...
found problem...interesting.
turns out i used a slightly smaller size of line than recomended for the cooler lines i fabbed.the line would not match precisely to the reusable style of hydraulic fittings that i aquired to fab the line.
if the line is slightly to small, the fittings can tear small...
running one now...
i installed an amsoil unit a short while after i purchased the truck.havn't put much more than a couple thou miles on it yet.i don't really bother whith oil testing.i just wanted it to take care of the majority of soot and maybe some water and acids in the oil.
i'd say it's...
update...
finally, after a great deal of trial and error (mostly error) i got it to work!here's what i went through...dropped pan 4 times, pulled valve body twice, pulled all wiring twice, continuity checked all wiring twice, replaced all solinoids once, swapped valve body with a good used unit...
drop the collumn...
i also believe it's adjustable...or it could be the lock cylinder is turning a bit,or starting to break.either way,the ign switch is pushed/pulled by a rod that runs from the lock cylinder.if it's not the cylinder, you don't have to remove the steering wheel...remove part of...
Just a little update on my trans swap.i was planning to get this thing go-ing by spring, but spring went and sprung without me...last week i finally got the shift linkage settled enough to trust in park and drive and tried for a test run.
shifted into drive and...nothing.blast!after some...
krylon
here's a shot of the replacement hood i installed on my m-1010...the krylon (spray bomb)
looks reasonably good.certainly better than the wierd blue it was before.
personally it looks a little to brownish...but i'm partially color blind, with green being the
worst for me.it looks good...
should have noticed this before, but i just realized that the intake i found a couple weeks ago in the local pick and pull,is a type with a fully open plennum.whilst the one on my m-1010 has a split plennum.this makes three types of intakes i'm aware of...egr,open and split.
what are the power...
it'll work...
it works, but (there's always a problem...) when you use the manual shifter kits, you are essentially creating a manual shift thm-400...the trans will need some way to sense vacume much like the 400,to help control line pressure and shift points.unlike the 400 the 4l-80 has nothing...
THATS THE RUB...
Thats the main difference between the 4x and 2x transmisions...the trans output speed sensor (TOSS).the 2x case has the toss on the trans(rear left).the reluctor ring is built in.the 4x case has the toss in the transfer case.swapping a reluctor ring into an np-205 proved to...
