excellent
that is one of the photos taped to the shop wall right now
what application are those wheels from, i am dying to know...
and just for info, I never doubted him knowing his stuff for one second.. if I had the dough, I would simply write the check for either of the listed 1009's right...
I will be swapping axles at both ends, I have matched sets of each. And they are part of the 8-lug swap anyway (the diesel bub is a 1/2 ton)
I will just use the 208 behind the 465 4spd, simply because I have it all and it is a no-brain fix. This will not be a hard-core wheeler by any stretch...
I downloaded one of the photos of (edit - someone's) Humvee wheels on their 1008 shortly after they posted it... keeping a dossier of info to keep me motivated to bring the diesel suburban back to life. It will probably be a better and more expedient program than finding a 1009 for now.
the...
well, that leads me to another question... I should like to a pic here, but I was hoping someone might be able to figure out what He is using for a wheel on the M1009's. six lug, deep dish, plain steel, 16.5" Not sure if maybe he is taking the 1008 rim and the 1009 center and welding them...
Ok, so M1009's with 3.08 gears are reported to make as much as 27 mpg highway (Alfa Heaven claims that, at least on units with 36's on the 3.08 axles.)
I have a 6.2 sub with 160K and a banks turbo that makes 19 min. out of each tank.
How bad is it for the M1008's with the 4.56 gears? And with...
Would like to nail down a couple / few of these myself. Wish I had a better answer than that... I was starting to think things like 'group buy' but the fact is there will certainly be a few scrap engines in the lot, a few very worn out cores, a few good runners, a few rebuilts that have been...
Okay... asking here...
From what I gather, these trucks use what I would call 'air-over-hydraulic' brakes.
As In... Air pressure from a normal (or nearly normal) treadle valve modulates a hydraulic 'master' cylinder, which then operates the wheel brakes.
The Volvo-on-5-tons project truck uses...
Gentlemen, not trying to hijack, but I have a few questions regarding this brake system also... Mind if I bring them up here, or would you rather I start a new thread on it?
peace

Questions for those using a manual push button on the Glow Plugs in a 6.2-
Which number glow plug are you using?
Are you using it in a 12V or 24V configuration?
How long do you 'hold the button' on your particular unit?
I have owned a few Diesel Scouts (Nissan 6-33) Also have one in a CJ-10A...
These wheels and axles came from the same 5-ton. I believe they are the same as the wheel pictured. I have one dissasembled which I will get photos of tonight.
Hope it helps answer a question or two.

Not 100% sure I have that image tag...
RE: m1009
Thanks for the info, Gentlemen.
I know of a collection of 3 -09's locally (within 100mi, anyway) which are in various states of 'together' and 'not-together'.
I suppose for my dough, the best thing will be to secure the 3 and make a good one and keep a few of the essentials on hand...
Howdy folks.
Among all the other things I find myself doing, building, selling or wanting to find, I am looking for M-1009's (though pickups / shelters would be groovy too).
Newbie here, but have owned dozens of various iron.
I recently picked up (almost by accident) a 6.2/auto 1/2T Suburban...
I am involved in a truck build currently using Rockwells and 16.00x20's. However, a 5-ton with an engine fire became available 100 miles away while we were planning the wheel program, so the 2-1/2 tons were sold and we got the wet-brake 5-tons and matching combat / dual bead-lock wheels. The...
