I use that same torque multiplier. It was recommended to me by another member on the forum. It works great on lug nuts.
It easily produces a huge amount of torque though, so be careful. It is very easy to accidentally over-tighten a left hand nut with it!
This is a screenshot from an Army PMCS video. On the topic of minimizing intake stack height again, does anyone out there have this style of mushroom inlet on their FMTV? I'd like to see some detail photos.

I believe it weighed something like 2,200-2,400 lbs

Also, removing the bed might reduce your overall expedition vehicle height.
We have made our CAD model available on OnShape (a free online CAD system). If you are interested, we posted the details on the forum here:

We aren't associated with OnShape in any way, but it is a pretty neat online CAD program AND it's free! We have been making a CAD model of the basic M1078 chassis so that we can design our camper hab to integrate nicely with the truck. We thought we would share the CAD model so that it can be...
The project is going well. We are making a lot of headway. We have been trying to work on it a little every day.
I have decided not to post too much on this forum specifically about the expedition side of the project. I think I am going to keep this post more LMTV related. I will update it from...
I've been curious about that listed altitude limit as well. We sometimes camp above 11,000 ft in the summer out here, so it would be nice to understand what happens when you take it up that high. It would be bad if it didn't want to cold start at that altitude.
Ours hasn't been above 4,000 ft...
All good options coachgeo. Some of those height reduction options you listed have worked really well for people. I think it's cool how many different options there are out there for people depending on what they want, need, and prefer.
My wife and I have spent time on sailboats with low cabin...
Thanks for the clarification csoledade. Yup, I was taking the torsion sub-frame into account. That's what I meant by "kinematically mount the box, the height gets even worse".
We really wanted our overland truck to be around 10 ft, but we've been having trouble keeping the height down to 11 ft on our design.
We recently measured the following heights from the ground to the top of the upper frame rails on our LMTV:
53.75 inches in the back with...
Thanks for the tip on this. Very helpful. Because of your recommendation, I ordered some tubing and it works great.
Two each, McMaster Carr P/N 89955K899 (4130 Steel Tube, 1.000" OD, .120" Wall, 3' Long) works perfectly.
Thanks,
Michael
My wife and I made some nice new mud flaps for our LMTV. We tried to find good replacement flaps, but everything we found was either not the right size, or it was too expensive. Maybe others know a better replacement, but we opted to make a new set.
We ordered fiber reinforced exterior grade...
I met a guy who supposedly dropped his daughter (and her date) off at prom in his MAN 8x8. Apparently he accidentally hit another car with his 8x8 in the parking lot after dropping them off. He said they were the talk of the school after that.
I drove a Steyr 12M18 a few months back. It seemed to me at the time that much of the cab was basically identical to the LMTV, but the drivetrain was totally different. The truck was very nice. I liked the manual transmission a lot.
csoledade,
I didn't see any prices when I went to the...
The Bliss Mobil modules look sweet. I have heard and read lots of good things about them. If the cost works for you, I bet you will be happy with the end product.

Ok, I think I got this sorted. Nate at Equipment Parts Sales helped me figure it out. EPS has a bunch of NOS driveshaft, and he was really helpful and patient with all my questions.
Basically, it looks like there are three NSN numbers for the LMTV FWD driveshaft (P/N 483-49-050-145)
NSN...
