    Truck got hit friday night.

Pay the Doc a visit with "Ole Hickory" and some "boot leather". Just kidding. Get a police report then give him a chance to man up. If all else fails resort to the first sentence. :-P

    Explosive Projectile Crates for M1009

Those are Howitzer crates. I've been told the wood has been treated with a chemical to prevent mold, mildew, rot etc. Do not burn them. I'd be very careful putting fuel or any other liquid in that can. I use the new plastic Scepter cans, you can't beat them. The "O" is most likely a "Q".

    USMC HMMWV Markings

Will post pics when it's done. I thought you had the 1008 pickup. I think your pulling a fast one on us.

    USMC HMMWV Markings

In the units I was in we painted "USMC" in 2" letters centered on each door with the UIC/RUC # below it. Tire pressure (TP 35) was stenciled over each wheel in 1" letters/numbers. "USMC" was stenciled on the left bumper front and rear in 2" letters and the UIC/RUC # on the right side bumper...

    USMC HMMWV Markings

I did 6 months at the Barracks (H&S Co Guard Section) in 1982 during my first enlistment. I was transferred to Security Company at Camp David after I got the Top Secret Clearance approved. We had Navy marked and SeaBee maintained Jeep CJ-5's and 7's up there at the time.

    USMC HMMWV Markings

Were you at Marine Barracks or Henderson Hall? That's odd because every unit has to have a RUC or the unit cannot make Unit Diary entries on a daily basis. Perhaps only Fleet Marine Force (FMF) units marked RUC's on the vehicles. 8th & I or non FMF units most likely didn't have many tactical...

    USMC HMMWV Markings

If you have hard doors you'll often find the units RUC # or Reporting Unit Code. It's a five digit number (also found on your LES, Leave and Earnings Statement) e.g. 83268. This number is critical when your trying to find your units vehicles on a pier with 2 thousand others. Underneath that...

Possible to get a military hummer for 10 grand?

Whatever you do don't buy a Marine Corps one. I've seen what they go through on a shipboard deployment to the Med or WestPac. Picture 4 drunk Frat boys on spring break in a rental car paid for by there parents and multiply that by 15 or more years and you might be partially accurate.

Anybody else here drive CUCVs while in the military?

I drove M1009 / M1008's from 1986 thru 1994. We beat the living snots out of them as I recall. It's nice when you have a motor pool and you can just drop it off with a brief description of the problem on the trip ticket. Drove hundreds of miles in the M923's and M927's as well as the M998 Hmmwv.

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

I'm guessing 1987 maybe 88. It was February or March. Nothing beats spending a balmy June out at Site 50 in the Barry Goldwater Air Force Range in (Wellton, AZ). The moon is probably more hospitable.

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

Our Pilots would line up at the Liquid Oxygen farm in the morning for a few huffs of pure O2. 0431 is Logistics/Embarkation Specialist, 0491 is Combat Service Support Chief. Also held 8531 Guard, 8563 Combat Water Survival Instructor and 0369 Infantry Unit Leader. I did a hop with my OIC...

New M1009 owner...what can you tell me about my new truck...

No clue on the markings. The light may have been installed if this vehicle was a Convoy Commanders vehicle.

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

I never had a Wing MOS (0311/0431/0491) but did a total 9 years in Wing units. WTI was a blast until a few of our hungover A4M pilots bombed a Yuma Proving grounds active building. They were so off course from the bombing range it wasn't even close. One 500 pounder (HE) and it was all over. The...

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

I was an East Coast Marine for most of my career. I spent some time in HML-771 and in HMM-774 in Norfolk. Was one of the few unfortunate enough to make a KC-130 landing at the Expeditionary Airfield at 29 Palms with a UH-1N inside. Never made it to Tustin before it closed but spent some time at...

    USMC Signal Corps Logo

They almost look like Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblems within a circle. Not uncommon as units would frequently paint them even though technically unauthorized.

    USMC Signal Corps Logo

Could be just a "Flammable" warning if that's one of the fuel tanks. A higher resolution would help for sure. Standard "tac marks" would be vehicle Serial Number, USMC, Tire Pressure, Center of Balance, Landing serial number, GVWt etc.

The photo won't open up for me. Anyone else have any luck?

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

It was common for the enlisted Crew Chiefs to fly the helicopter (off the record). They weren't allowed to take off or land but Im confident that they could in a combat scenario.

    USMC Signal Corps Logo

http://www.vanguardmil.com/images/00000003825200.jpg In the Marine Corps anyone who deals with radios, communications, wire etc (25xx or 28xx) MOS's are usually housed in "Comm Companies or Comm Squadrons/Bn's or Radio Bn". The link is the branch insignia for US Army Signal Corps. The Marine...

    My new uh-1e marine helo.

The bird on the right was from HML-776, I was in HML-771 for a while. I noticed these "Echo" models didn't have wire cutters on the top and bottom of the fuselage like UH-1N's did. Some find memories in those cruising with the doors open over the desert as the Crew Chief (Sergeant, E-5) was...
