Everything HeavySteve said and make sure fuel is getting to the injection pump. Also make sure the shut down cable is letting the rod (sorry can't think of name) that shuts the fuel off in the pump return fully into the pump. Anyone hear of using WD40 as starting fluid? Seen it done on a...
vibration
What is the idle speed. is it what is specified? To slow, a lot of engines don't run smoothly. Might have bad injector and when you speed up the motor you don't notice the miss. Also could have thrown a weight off of the torque converter. Not unheard of. I have worked on a...
Made in USA
I am not sure if this is the place for this, but I am really concerned that so little is being made in the US and so many people only look at the price when considering a purchase. I can't say I never bought an imported item, computer, but if it was worth anything I felt darn...
Cheap
When I changed mine I went to the local NAPA store and they have a loan a tool program. They bill your card for the cost of the tool when you pick it up but when you bring it back they refund it. It did the job nicely and didn't cost a dime.
Brakes
One thing to check is that brake pedal is free, its possible its not returning to the uppermost extent of its travel where it releases the compressed fluid back into the master cylinder. Try pulling the pedal all the way up to see if it releases the brakes.
Another thing, its a long...
I had the same problem. Check to see if its grease or gear lube. Turns out I had a shaft seal leaking and the gear lube passing through the grease made it look like grease. Changed the seal and it quit. Also found that if you fill the differential 1/4 to 1/2 inch below the plug it seemed...
Rusty tank
I have dropped a piece of chain in a rusty tank before and shook the tank best I could for quite some time. Worked well. Use a shop vac to vacuum out the rust before you use something to wash the rest of the rust out. Pictures look as if the bottom of the the transfer pump could...
Brakes
Another thing you might want to check is the brake adjustment for the rest or the truck. The front adjustment might be fine but the rest of the brakes might need adjusting resulting in the front brakes applying first and doing the majority of stopping for the truck. I also had a shoe...
Engine knock
With the engine good and warmed up try loosening the injector lines one at a time on each injector. If the noise disappears on one cylinder you have found the problem. It might be an injector problem (poor spray pattern) causing the noise. If your not familiar with engines...
Tranny
You know you might check to see if the transmission pan is bent. Maybe bent up in the middle enough to restrict the fluid getting into the filter pickup. This might be the source of the new whine and sluggish engagement. It can be bend and not leak, I have seen this before. The...
Welcome to the addiction
Great to hear from a new Ohio member. Everyone here is so helpful and genuinely good peopled. I have had nothing but great experiences on the site. Welcome
Studs
I bought a square drive socket from NAPA. Running the stud through the nut with the impact should free it up enough to screw it the rest of the way out. If I am not mistaken you should tighten the inner wheel, via the studs, to the proper torque then install the outer rim and torque...
Nuts!!!!!
There is something called a Pork Chop which is sort of a glorified cut off end (box end) of a open end and box end wrench. There is the box end and about 2-3 inches of a shaft. I have one (Mac Tools) but have never, yes I just knocked on wood, had to use it. I think the shaft and...
While tooling along in the deuce this weekend I noticed at times the dash gauges were acting crazy. Some merely were slow dancing side to side while others were quivering with the speed of a reciprocal saw on its side. While I don't begrudge them a little fun once and a while it would be...
seal
As you will soon discover the seal is only a dust seal and the rear bearings are lubricated by grease. Do a search and you will see a plethora of advice on this topic. I had to learn via the school of hard knocks that leaks in the axle are usually the result of plugged breathers and a...
