Deuce mounts seem to go for around $2000 (asked). This being a newer 5 ton mount, I'd say it is probably rarer, and might go higher. Seems like most folks who have a deuce, 5 ton or larger would like to add the mount if they could afford it. You might think twice before you get rid of yours.
I actually passed a Mercedes once on the autobahn with my M151 -- I was going down hill, and a little old German lady was driving, but it still counts.
That would be cool - the old Deuce was a Studebaker Packard -- I want to say a '53 but could have been newer. I had it from '76 to '79. Any thoughts on how to track it down? This was one that had an M109 type box built on the back by the unit to serve as a maintenance truck.
Trying to decide whether to re-stencil the bumper markings on my M35A2 to match the Deuce I was assigned to drive for 2 1/2 years in Germany in the 70's or leave the markings that were on it when I got it from the Iowa National Guard three years ago.
What have you done, or what do you think?
I have not heard the term before, but looking through the pictures, it seems to include most of the spare parts you would want to have on had an a maintenance facility. Even includes a pioneer tool rack.
I have several of these, and have not gotten around to figuring out what they are yet -- thanks all for posting and answering. Anyone have an idea what they are worth, ballpark?
I say go for it. What are you going to do for windows? Try for a super thick bulletproof glass, or go for armored shutters and install tank periscopes?
As far as making yourself a target, wtshtf, I think any vehicle moving will be a target.
Just ordered a wheel cylinder. Figure I will replace the existing one with new, and then rebuild the old one for a spare.
Has anyone run across a good thread that suggests what parts, fluids, etc. to carry or have on hand as spares? I've run across a few, but nothing I would call...
Picked it up today
Picked it up today. I had gone out last week and rebuilt the master cylinder, but today when we got to move it, the left front wheel cyclinder locked up.
Bled it free, but figured it was better to tow it the 8 miles home than to try to cap it off or do something else...
in 1977 or 78, our batallion in Germany was issued brand new M887 contact trucks. We took a bus up to Heilbron and picked them up. They were definitely overloaded, with all the tools and the generator/welder, but we drove them home on the autobahn averaging 85mph. Steering was very squirrely...
Sure, I'd vote for a train forum. My grandfather was an Engineer for 52 years, including running steam engines in France in WWI. A trench engine and cars is on my list for when I win the lottery.
I submitted my EUC on 29 August, they sent it to DOD on 30 August, just got the invoice maked paid in full today, 10 calendar days, including a holiday. Hope to pick up the M818 yet this week.
I understand if you have never submitted an EUC before, it may take a bit longer for the first one.
The EUC and paid in full invoice came through today. Waiting for a call back from the site contact. They used to like to have things picked up on Wednesdays, keep your fingers crossed, I might get it this week!
