After reading, I find that ESP ran between 1994 and 1999, and produced M35A3's, so my truck DIDN'T come from ESP.
Still curious that the DASH and FRAME numbers don't match, and the SF97 lists 1973 as the manufacture date when the FRAME number says 1964.
Any thoughts?

Got my VIN info, repainted the ID numbers (with pix)
Thanks to CARNAC (donation already sent), I found out some interesting things about my Deuce.
1. The frame number 0525-10109 says 1964 M35A2, but the dash number says 1973 M35A2. If you look at the before picture of the engine, you can just...
Okay, I found this 9 digit frame number:

Before Photos
I bought my Deuce painted, but I did get several low-res "before" photos. So we know that it was originally green-camo, and the bumper numbers originally belonged to a different truck.

Update: heard back from Steve C., and the current bumper numbers are fiction (they came from another truck).
So all I have is the VIN and manufacturer date.
The right bumper seems to read "HQ 11", but the before photos are very low res. I also know that it wasn't originally tan.

I doubt that you need to change the bed of the truck...who says you're not carrying farm supplies or people in the cab. The tax office will never even see your vehicle... just the inspection station, and all they care about is lights, brakes and uncracked windshields.
--Fuzzy
I'm going the farm truck route with mine (why have a vehicle with a 5 ton hauling capacity if you can't haul anything).
As long as you're within 150 air-miles miles of your farm or ranch, you're legal. Practically that means if you're within 150 miles of Texas you won't get busted for hauling...
Thanks for all you do.

I hadn't planned to put a gun on it, but a turret-mounted 50.cal makes a great "Keep of the lawn" statement.
First things first...get it registered and legal to drive to town.

Yup, it's all mine. Just got it Friday morning. Next step is to get all the lights working working so I can get it inspected and registered. Trying to decide between "antique", "classic" or "farm truck" registration.
Then I have to decide whether to mount something on the M66 ring.

I'm a new Deuce owner just 20 miles west of I-35.

Thanks. I decided to bid on this particular truck because it was such a good match to the 30KW generator I'd already bought from MRE Depot.
I've been known as "Fuzzy" since 1977 when I went to Rice.

Thanks. I actually found this site by searching for the operator's manual, and quickly downloaded everything about the M35A2.
I fired it up today and moved it into my shop. Once I had the engine running, I quickly found out why they call this turbo-diesel engine the "Whistler".

Just took delivery of a 1973 AM General M35A2 with the 50 cal M66 turret ring mount.
Purchased from MRE Depot in California.
I have a feeling I will be learning a lot more about mechanics in the coming year.
Pix are in my album.
