I believe you are right. If this tranny is different imagine what this engine would do if it was in a truck with limited 2600 rpm. That would be one fast Deuce.
If I run it at 2600 I am only doing about 42-45 miles per hour. At the the red line it will do 53 (the tach has not been replace and the glass has not shifted). Governer says about 3400. It easily reves up over to 2900 with no strain. I do not think this engine is a 5 ton. Even though this...

I was in a storm last year and the rain tore my canvas top. I started getting real wet on my shoulders. Fiortunately my overnight bag was a waterproof duffel bag so my items stayed dry. I now have a hard top so I will not have that problem again.
You have a split pulley. If you turn the front half of the pulley counter clockwise that loosens up the belt. If you turn it clockwise that tightens up the belt. The front half of the pulley is on a threaded hub. Sometimes you can use your hand to tighten but a wrench does help.
