There have been 3 main series of Deuce and a Halfs.
WW2 was the CCKW
Then came the M135 and M211 (GMC's w/ automatic trannies)
Then the current deuce. The originals were M34's (gassers). Then they became M35's (SWB) and M36 (LWB)
M36's are relatively scarce, just the extra long version.
There...
I have seen deuces with replaced data tags, these on trucks that came out of residue sales in years past. I think some depots left the tags alone, others replaced them.
As for the discrepancies in manufacturing dates, that has been frustrating to me as well. I have been doing some research...
The new switches look neat, but I sure enjoy the simplicity of the 3 lever type. I'm going to round up a couple from the boneyard next time I'm in Albany, then I'll decide which one I like. Looks a little too high tech for a deuce, IMHO
Yeah, next time I have the drivers seat out I'll get a picture of them. They are right behind the drivers door, where the cab rolls to the rear. I saw the Bondo and started looking close. One looks a lot like a bullet hole, the other like a piece of jagged metal went through. No major damage, so...
I have a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M35A2. If you go to the AM General website, there is a pretty decent short history of the Deuce. It started as a REO, then went to Studebaker, Studebaker/Packard, Kaiser Jeep, AM General, General Products Division of AM General.
Along the way there were units built by...
I imagine it will be easier to do if you get 2 steel bars about 18" long that are a snug fit into the main cap bolt holes. They should extend almost all the way through the cap. Put them in the cap and wotk it back and forth with the crank resting on the cap. It should loosen up. Don't get...
Make sure you are rolling the bearings out the right way! Remember, they have the little retainer tabs that hold them in place in the block.
Good luck with the engine rebuild!
Cabs aren't too hard to find, it might be easier to swap a good one on rather than spend a month welding up a rust bucket.
If your PTO is still there, winches are about $275 from Adelmans (sp?).
I would be really concerned about your compressor tank, have it professionally inspected before you...
Pop the driveshafts out of the blazer and drag it behind the deuce. I knocked out a lunette ring towbar for my Nissan PU in less than 2 hours so I could drag it back when I bought my deuce. Any welding shop can help you make it up, or a buddy who is decent with metal.
Looking at the motor swap thread.....
Would it be worth anything to put a 5 ton filter assembly on a deuce? It would still look military (and I am sure it has been done in some motor pool in the past). Would there be any measureable benefit from this?
Obviously the Cummins filter will flow...
I think we could put together a Kick A__ Junkyard wars team. I am a professional "2nd shift engineer", Spicergear and Trango have done just a little wrenching. Yeah, we could definately do that.
The monster garage thing is just a little too weird for me, chopping up perfectly good vehicles just...
If a Detroit is what you want, then by all means have at it! It should be a fairly easy swap, the engines are similar in size. One of my buddies is getting the urge to bob down an old deuce, and he wants to use a fuel injected 300 Ford gas engine. He has found a donor deuce sans engine and...
You get some boost from the supercharger, but they are there mainly to keep exhaust scavenging at optimal levels. The turbo helps recover some of the huge exhaust plume from the 2 strokes. I can remember one thing, wring off the blower drive shaft and she stops quick!
Kenny
That he does. He is clearing out all the deuce stuff so he can get to work on his WW2 command car.
The towbars went over my limit, especially with $100 shipping. I'll just finish building mine.
