Beautiful truck and nicely done Charles! One small question though - It was restored without the door mounted spare so as to look like it's not a -B1 model, but I note that the tire carrier and lock holes were simply plugged instead of being filled. Reason?
This is an old subject, beat to death long ago but on a whim, I thought of looking up what's going on with David Ahl's "Dodge M37 Restoration Guide" There are currently four used ones for sale through Amazon. Listed prices are $599.95, $799.95, $849.95, and $999.00. If I had only had the...
Difficult to answer such a simple question. One 1950's automotive source I've seen said 7-13". Another source said a minimum of 17". A Trico repairman implies they should work at 13". One big variable is the pressure of the blade on the windshield - too much will put too much drag on the...
Thanks for checking. I'm sure than when I take it apart it'll be obvious as to how to handle it. Maybe I shouldn't mess with it since it's been doing its job for the past 54 yerars (engine was gov't. rebuild in 1956).
Great explanation! Thanks again for helping make sense of what should have been obvious, but isn't.
Just one final question: on the front of the truck in the smaller housings, you have Parking Lights and Black Out Marker lights. Why "Parking Lights" and what purpose do the front black out...
Thanks OldFart. I think I see what's what now. It seems my lights are doing their own thing. The only ones that do what they should are the only ones I really need - the headlights and the left brake light. I guess I have some tracing to do.
As far as the brake lights - is the right brake...
Still up in the air
I haven't yet taken the filter apart. I wanted to have a new element in hand before I do but I'm wondering now if I need to wait. TM 9-8030 seems to say just clean the parts and reassemble. Is this the correct procedure? What is the element made of - paper, mesh screen...
Still Confused
That's what I would have thought, but from the diagram, no matter what position the switch is in, both rear lights appear to be on. I can't tell from the picture what bulbs are lit - the top (in the oval) or the bottom (in the horizontal slit), or all of them.
I drove one of...
Thanks MWMULES, that is what I was looking for. However, I don't know if I'm reading it right or not. It looks like, no matter what position the switch is in, ALL the rear lights are lit. I would think that driving lights would be one combination, parking lights would be different and...
I can't find any references that explain the functions of each of the lenses in the standard M37 tail lights.
The left one has a large oval lens which lights red when the headlights are on, and brighter red for the brake light. The right one has a depressed oval area with a square cutout...
Well, if the stripper involves using lye, as one poster linked, that has to be one of the most insane things I've heard. In my brief carreer of restoring vehicles (3 total) I've found that the only effective stripper is a rotary power sander. You'll do more in a few hours than you can do in...
Coker's new catalog lists them at $248 each, with tubes $32.95 each. This seems strange since several dealers list the same tire (Coker brand) at $215. You might try just contacting a local independent tire dealer and see if they can order some. My local guy can and will order anything that's...
Might have been nice to have had something like that. I just bought 6 new military plugs and wires for my M37 and spent about $220. Could have done the same job with civilian parts for $45-50.
The metal part should be a snap to make; the rubber compression fitting might not be readily available.
I got mine from an owner that had gotten it from a government auction. It had been in use by the US Forest Service (Dept of Agriculture) and had been painted overall ORANGE. That wasn't a military color, but is was a government color.
Hmmm....
His Web site catalog (current, but dated March 2010) lists them at $325 per set. That's a 29% increase in one year; seems like a lot. Maybe you could call him back and try for an adjustment.
The answer to each of your questions is Yes. Additionally I have seen yellow painted M37s, I think on airfield operations. I don't want to step on any copyrights so I won't post pictures but you can go to Google>images and find quite a few.
Just Google - specialty vehicles movie use - and you'll find dozens of companies that provide vehicles for movie use. Call one or more of them to find out what is involved.
