A typo, Looks like it should read CME Arma, in FL.
Yup, Prestolite said(my call to district manager) the assembly line has been taken down for the deuce alternators. That was summer 2007. My local alt shop said they had one on order since spring 2007 but Prestolite keeps extending the ship...
:? Well, the deuce alternator saga continues. Been deadlined since Nov.
Replaced the alt. bearings, that's no problem, still common bearings.
Looking at the metal corrosion and seals, I decided to paint all the housing and any exposed metal, pulley, etc. Beefed up shaft seals. Kinda makes sense...
Final solution for the radiator drain tube. Painted the inside of the short steel tube to keep it from rusting shut again. The plastic downtube can be routed better too.
Does anyone have any info on this deuce push bar, maybe a nsn. Doesn't quite look like a field modification. Thought one of these might come in handy with LilRuthie's +45mph instability problem. :?
And don't forget to check the rad cap draintube, mine was plugged solid top to bottom. Gave me some real leakage scares at high speed(revs) at other engine points. Mine was steel(why?) and rusted solid, couldn't be reamed out with the bends it had. Now it's plastic...
Last couple of outings I've noticed this when traveling at highway speed +50mph and going over bumps or dips. The truck first pulls to the left then to the right when landing back on the pavement.
Got kinda funny because the passengers would start to lean one way then the next to compensate...
Emmado22,
But still, a couple low$ intershaft assemblies has everything you need. Can be manual engagement or a pneumatic actuator to slide the splined shafts together. Some guide tubes just have to be added to the coupling in the pics.
I'm with you, Mark.
Although I started a custom disconnect and it's on the back burner right now(working on alternator rebuild). I have heard that there is a interaxle disconnect made for the Rockwell axle setup like ours. It was used on older dumptrucks or cement trucks, might have been a...
RE: Re: Found that whine in the engine compartment
The bearing is a loose press fit to the housing, it came out easy with a hammer and a piece of wood.
I wouldn't even try to rebuild these alts, but there is no upgrade replacement. Leece Neville/Prestolite reps said they took down the...
Started tearing apart the alternator and found this. The ball bearing at the pulley end of the shaft. Seems to be a ball or two short. :? The bearing assembly self destructed, not being either a shielded or sealed bearing assembly. I'll upgrade to a sealed bearing assembly when I rebuild the...
cbvet,
I started working on mine. It's a Prestolite AMA 5104 with an internal regulator. One thing leads to another. First the obvious, the brush wires were frayed and disconnected, connected them up and it still didn't work. Checked all the diodes with seemed ok, infinite resistance one way...
jwaller,
Yeah, that thin brass disk is supposed to seal against the filler tube top? Hmmm.... Everythings bent on mine, that thin disk is wavy, and I block sanded the filler tube because it was wavy too. I'm gonna look for a thin gasket to keep coolant from streaming out and on to the sides of...
The 'brass cap' to 'brass radiator' seal is still leaking, a gasket of some sort would make more sense in between there. Nope no overflow tank, but theres plenty of room to add one.
It was a long Veterans Day weekend and I had a chance to see just how long my brand new Sears Die Hard batteries wood last. :? This wasn't a planned longevity test, but at the same time I did find out my regulator/generator isn't working at all.
On a fresh charge:
The batteries lasted 3 hours...
