    MEP-004a DC wiring problems

I would start with load testing the batteries, a cheap or marginal batteries can go bad after a direct short. Next I would check the battery cable connections and cables going to the ground and the big lug on the starter terminal. Make sure you disconnect the battery cables from the...

    802/803 fuel pump fittings

In my opinion, if you didn't want to keep it original. I would just use an elbow and a hose barb fitting, cut the steel line and put in a diesel rated rubber fuel line and call that good. Use a tubing cutter on the steel line, not a hack saw or abrasive wheel. Even though the steel line...

    MEP-803a seized engine

If your connecting rods have been removed, connect them back up. Use a good penetrant, are some good ones out there, evaporust, 50/50 mix of ATF and diesel fuel, and I like essentialube. Not very common, but I think it works very well. no matter what you use, give it time to work (days). Then...

    MEP-015a Carburetor help

I don't have experience with the 015a, but these problems are universal with small engines. First off, the screw you are talking about, I assume is the fuel mixture adjustment screw. There are several types of these, one where there is a spring under the head of the screw. I have stretched...

    002a Runs Great then Dies

Temp sensors do go bad. Like Chainbreaker said, check the cooling fins, not just what you can see, but all the way around. Remove any tin work that you need to do so. Could be mice, mud wasps or any other critters that could get in there. Also check between the cooling fan and the cylinders to...

MEP-803A - Quad fuse blows when increase of Voltage

Are you disconnecting the windings before measuring the resistance? Some meters will not measure very low ohms accurately. Borrow a meter that uses a four wire resistance reading for the most accurate measurement or check your meter with a known low resistance of 5 ohms or less. Does this...

newer 803A smokes and bogs down with load ... start with injectors?

I would start with new fuel filters. This way you will know where you are with them since they are a normal maint item. If you have spin on filters, cut them open and check for anything that doesn't look right. Black slimy stuff normally means algae. Also while filters are off, hold a clean...

    Problem with MEP004

If you disconnect the start wire from the starter solenoid you should be able to have the batteries connected and be easier to trouble shoot with test light or voltmeter.

    MEP 831a Hard line cracked

I did do that once in an emergency, but I would recommend not to. Any foreign material left after welding or brazing that can't be cleaned out could go right into the injector, and they wouldn't like that. The inside of the injector line is very small.

    MEP831A DC charging unit problem

I have found that the black cable ties will outlast the natural color ties by many times. I haven't used natural colored ties in years. Never use natural colored ties where it is exposed to sunlight.

    Sea foam in fuel system

I am not trying to change anyones mind, this is just my thoughts. I don't think any fuel supplier would take the risk of selling substandard fuel. Although some companies of various products do take a risk. Look at VW for one. Class Action lawyers would be all over it like stink on you know...

    Sea foam in fuel system

I also agree you don't need any additives. Keep or remove any water in the fuel tank, run and operate the generator regularly and use high quality filters. Don't buy the cheapest ones you find, also a high priced filter is not always a quality filter. You should be doing this already and no...

    Sea foam in fuel system

I second that about not using additives, but could be specific incidents where they should be used. Oxygen, heat and water will degrade gas or diesel fuel. The only equipment that I use an additive in is my MEP 802. I use Pri-D for the fuel in it. Add it when you fill the tank(s) and add once...

    MEP 831A Oil Filling Procedure

I would say it does 2 things 1. Seals the top compression ring 2. Slightly raises the compression ratio. That would raise the temperature of the air when compressed. On a diesel, the hot air of compression ignites the fuel. Too much oil can cause hydostatic lock which is bad. In this case a...

    MEP 831A Oil Filling Procedure

This is a case where a picture would have made a difference. Like a lot of people say to include pictures. hint hint

    MEP 831A Oil Filling Procedure

Did do a little research. None of the TM manuals showed the big yellow cap on top of the engine. Only thing I found was preheat for starting and compression release for hand starting. Did a search on L70AE engine and some show the big yellow cap on the valve cover and some don't. If you take the...

Nice setup. Just remember that the load will change with the voltage.

    MEP 831A Oil Filling Procedure

If it was mine, I would fill with the port that was the easiest. Just keep in mind that filling through the top port especialy on a cold engine it would take a little longer to get an accurate reading on the dipstick until the oil runs down into the crankcase.
