I'm planning on removing my winch from my 1088 truck. I need the space and probably will never need the winch. I can probably figure it out with some luck and the TMs, but does anyone here have any suggestions on the best way to do it? I'm also not familiar with PTOs, so I have a lot to learn...
I'm one of those "on my way" guys yet I have full-timed before in an RV. Constatntly moving avery few weeks can get old, not to mention the planning that goes into moving all the time. And life happens. Our last trip was planned for a year, then my wife broke her elbow, requiring surgery...
How are you putting a water tank above your rear axles? You’ve got maybe a max of 14” height between the axle parts and camper bottom. You’re maybe 100gal at most there. Am I missing something? Thanks!
I always forget things as I go along. In the next few weeks hopefully I’ll have some plans from my fabricator that I can share regarding extending the hitch out under the overhang. Maybe that will help...
I’m building my own box. 2x3 steel for the main frame with 16ga studs. I’ll sheet probably with frp or aluminum. Rear tire carrier with storage too. I thought I didn’t want to tow, but just realized not every trip is an off road adventure. Lots of local trips I’d like to take a dirt bike or sxs...
Thanks, I saw that and read through the thread. What length are you looking at for your box overall and living space? Are you completely losing the ability to tow anything by blocking the hitch area? If you are not towing, do you need the added aux trans cooler still? Thanks,
Nice work Chris! I'm on the same path with a new to me 1088 with a 1083 bed. I probaby won't go pass through, but am looking at an 18-20' box. Maybe a frame stetch of 2' and a 2' overhang. What are you planning on for your box?
Nate
I just drove my 1088 from Denver to So Cal at 65mph (GPS) and averaged 9 mpg over the course of 3 days based on google maps distances matched with the corrected speedo FWIW. I've never driven one without the high speed gears, but there is plenty of bottom end left too, even when not in mode.
Thanks, been looking around at some others and realized steve6x6x6 had mentioned those weren't axles from an lmtv.... Makes a little more sense now. I think..
Thanks, its basically what I'm considering. Not ever having had one apart, I'm failing to wrap my head around the connection from the axle splines to the outer ring that he fabbed in photo #1. It looks like there should be something there, even if it is just a mating set of splines on the...
Steve6x6x6, happen to have a photo of what is inside the black cap on the alxes? Trying to wrap my head around what you did there. Those are super helpful, thank you!
Thanks for the opions, I understand why it was designed that way. I've heard of a few 1078's with this done, but was really looking for someone with experience to chime in like steve6x6x6 has.
m-35tom have you driven one with the hub reduction removed, or is this just your opinion?
Thank...
