    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

More Pumbing & Wireing.... So today I was getting all the Deutch-connectors wired. This consisted of figuring out all the pin-numbers and match them to their Oshkosh wire number. For some reason the new harness in the cab is all 4-digit numbers where the TM diagram and my older Mk48 cab are...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Lots of teflon pipe sealant paste....and double checking it with Windex.....:-D

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Pneumatic System Here are a few update pics on the FEMTT. I just about got the FEMTT's air system figured out and hooked up. I must admit that it kicked my butt for the last few days! Trying to mate the Mk48 cab's unusual air system, to what is left of the M916's air system, was certainly...

    Anyone running a front locker?

I had a Detroit in the front of one of my trucks some years ago and it worked ok. It had a manual shift front axle engagement, no sprague, but it had lockout hubs. So I'm not sure how it would act on a 800 series truck or other 5ton. I did have to run with the front axle disengaged, except for...

    Patracy's "SEMTT"

    M747 destroyed by crooks

Wow...that turned out to be one awesome looking trailer! Do you know how much weight you saved with the new neck design?

    Anyone running a front locker?

What type locker are you considering? I assume a Detroit?

    Mk48 Trailer Loadout w/o FPU?

Ok so the Mk48 is actually the FPU! I assume that you are asking about hauling the RBU without the FPU correct? So as an example, the Mk18A1 RBU (self loading container hauler) weighs 20,100 pounds empty and can be towed on it's own wheels by using a pintle conversion kit. It attaches to the...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Dashboard Wiring I tried to stick with the original gauges in the Mk48 dash since they were brand new, but the tach and speedo have proprietary Oshkosh sensors for the 8V92 Detroit. I could not get them to work properly with the FEMTT's Cummins engine and computer controlled Allison tranny. So...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Ok....here are the dimmensions for the opening in the back of the Mk48 cab: When installed, the hight above the top of the frame rails is 42". It is 43" wide at the back of the cab for about 3" in, but then starts to taper in at about a 45 degree angle. There are also 2 gussets in each top...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Yes I have the manuals for the "Howitzer Mover" but it is not in electronic form. I can make copies for you if you need me to, or you can probably download them of the internet. Just make sure you search for "Howitzer Mover" and not in the "Forklift" section....CAUSE THE USMC DID NOT CONSIDER...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Very true on the ratios! I do think that <promodhotrod> was talking about the location of the intermediate (idler) shaft in his post. On a single gear idlershaft, it would have to move up or down in the t-case, to accomodate different ratios. As far as I know this is not an issue in a two speed...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Yes Dave, this is still the same mag dill that "attacked" you back in the early nineties! It has been one of my most usefull tools over the years. I remember, I bought it about 25 years ago at a pawn shop, they thought it was the top part of a drill press and gave me a discount because it was...

5 Ton Vertical Wall Climb Height?

I don't think it's quite that simple! That would probably hold true to just get the front tires on the top of a vertical step.....what about the rear tires, 'belly clerance', drive shaft, fuel tank, air tanks, etc. If it is not available in the TMs, it would probably have to be tested in the...

Great thread, thank you for sharing it with all of us! I really enjoyed watching you do all the clever and inovative improvements to your truck and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the "Camper Project"!!

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

I will get the measurements for you first thing in the morning. We had a little blizzard going on today, so I rewired my dash, instead of batteling the elements outside....

The Amazing Fording Capabillities of the USMC 7 ton MTVR!

Well, IT IS ACTUALLY A ROAD here! It dips in to a railroad underpass and the water is therefore much deeper there, then in the surrounding area! As to the correct procedure; there are so many violations here, I'm not sure where to start. The first and most important rule is: NEVER DRIVE IN...

The Amazing Fording Capabillities of the USMC 7 ton MTVR!

Well....as a former Army truck driver, I guess I just automatically assumed that it was the Marines....it looked like an "amphibious landing" to me.....Well, sort of....

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

Thank you so much for looking out for my well-being! I was so worried about the mag-drill coming loose and wrapping everything, including yours truly, up on it self, that I totally overlooked the DANGER of the forklift forks!!!! Next time, I will remedy the problem by slicing a couple of basket...
