No, I cannot (and will not) flat tow the Bronco. Mud tires are expensive and wear out fast on asphalt (Non-balanced 38" Super Swampers.). Lockers/spools will probably cause it to do funny things while turning (and double the wear on the tires). Increased wear and tear on bearings and gears...
Trust me, manual steering and a rough ride are the least of my worries. My DD is an '85 Toyota with manual steering (on 33x12.50 tires). The suspension in it is so worn out it, the front leaf springs are in a severe negative arch and are nearly at the bump-stops.
Needless to say, "Rides...
Thank you guys very much for your help. I'd like to wire everything up to a standard 6 or 7 pin connector that you find on civilian trucks. That way, all I have to do is plug the trailer in and go. I think I got everything down, and it looks to be fairly simple. My father has repaired and...
As some may know, I plan on using a Deuce as a tow-rig. I will be towing a buddy's trailer until I can find the funds for my own. My original short-term plan was to use a charged 12V car battery strapped in the rear of the truck (or on the trailer) to run the lights with a simple on/off switch...
If you wait and look for sales, you can usually find a pair of 6-ton jack-stands at Northern Tool for $20. I got a pair of them last year. Shoulda got a couple more pairs at that price...
My buddy actually suggested that at one point. For one, it would be way too top-heavy. My Bronco weighs around 5000lbs as an estimate. It stands over 6.5 feet tall (without the 6" lift that is about to go on it), so I would be cutting it close with some of the low bridges, powerlines, and...
Perfect! Thank you for the pictures...that almost looks factory :-P
Flea: Thanks for the hitch suggestion. I will look into it when I get off of work tonight.
hobie237: I have thought about the parts aspect of this and the meticulous maintenance these things need. Compared to some...
OK, I am pretty big into offroad, and have built up a '78 Bronco for trails and mud. Non-street-legal of course, and currently I have nothing to tow it with. I was thinking about getting a Deuce to use as a tow rig. I've always wanted a Deuce anyways :-D
Distances would be about a 50-mile...
True...but I do need a years notice so I can save up for gas
To tell ya the truth, I didn't know anything about Aberdeen until last night while poking around the site. I'm still debating on whether I should get a Deuce, or a Motorcycle :? I probably won't be able to afford...
I'm off I-81 in Virginia. Exit 143. He should be taking I-81 all the way to NY if I'm not mistaken...
I know nothing about the Deuce, but would help any way I could
No, O/A is welding, and you can braze with it.
Brazing occures at temperatures above 800*F, but does not melt the base metals. The brazing rod is drawn into the joint by capillary action (very similar to soldering...)
Welding is where you actually melt the base metals together.
Both are...
I'm 99% sure that Hummer was at our High School about 4-5 years ago. I remember some branch of the military (Army or Marines) were outside with some cool toys looking to recruit graduates. That Hummer was out there as well and we all got to sit inside it...Very nice work!
Thanks for the offer Gimpy! I'm just getting ready to leave. I think it would be too much to ask for you to drive all the way over there to pick it up for me. I was hoping that someone would be comming from, or through there.
Anyone comming from Indy that can haul a rear truck axle (not Rockwell)? I'm located in Southwest Virginia, but I can meet you somewhere in WV, OH, or just about anywhere closer. I'm trying to save myself as much gas money as I can (my pickup gets 8mpg). I'm planning on driving up there this...
Absolutely beautiful pictures!! I am sooooo jealous!
We used to get good snows down here...but last year we only got 2" of sleet, and last week we got 3" of snow... :(
Yes, be very careful loading that onto your Deuce. I work a Coca-Cola loading trucks ("clinto", your pictures remind me of our warehouse...which I just left).
Just 3 weeks ago, someone was loading a truck at work, when a third-party told the switcher operator that the truck was finished...
RE: Re: RE: Good ideas for screw extraction, please
I vote for an Easy-out. Also, it's helpful to get a reverse-rotation drill-bit (one that cuts while spinning counter-clockwise). Sometimes the bolt will work it's way out when using the reverse drill-bit so you don't even need to use the...
