I'm sure glad I got the new kick-down switch installed yesterday. It helps a lot jumping into narrow gaps in traffic, and it gets my 0-60 time down to Tuesday. But I never would have predicted what happened today on the way home.
Imagine a bright blue springtime sky, sitting at a red light on...
While you went through every gulch and mud hole, I watched you from the bypasses. No way was I going into deep water or into some of those gulches. I'd never have made it out without damage. While you guys were drowning CUCVs in Lake Christy, I made coffee on the hill above and watched.
I...
I thought I was following you. I know you move quickly, but I couldn't figure out how I'd fallen so far behind. A quick cell phone call and I pulled off the trail and waited for the group. Rookie mistake. No blood, no foul.
And here it is on youtube. This is the footage I was looking for, to show the kid what he missed. Thanks!!!

My son is bugging me for video of the ambulance in action. He'd planned to come, but schoolwork took precedence. I failed to capture any video myself. If anyone has footage to share, I'll put it to good use indoctrinating the next generation.
Thanks!
It's tough to tell from your photo. To the right of photo 5 should be the fuel pump for your passenger heater. It's fed by a blue wire with a funky thing about the size of a lipstick in the circuit. Do you have a wire to your heater fuel pump?
I drove the M1010 straight from Rausch Creek to Logan airport to pick up my wife. As we were at the curb, getting the dog settled at her feet, a State Trooper tapped on my window. I rolled down the window so he could speak. "Are you going to leave that like that?", he asked. "Leave what?"...
The ambulance made it home. Thanks for all the patience and support shown to this off-road newbie. I learned a lot, and enjoyed meeting folks in person. Truck and driver passed their first off-road test.
Thanks for the clarification. The kick-down switch engages only when the pedal is floored, so I guess there *is* a difference in downshifting manually -- you have to ease up on the gas first.
I find the notion of CUCV racing kind of amusing... My truck doesn't feel particularly race-oriented...
I did that. We put CUCV wheels on the trailer, so the CUCV spare would fit either truck or trailer. On a really bad day, If I need a second spare, I can take it from the trailer. I had one week when 3 old tires failed, so the trailer was without wheels while I went and bought 5 new tires...
I keep this in the truck. It provides a thin but welcome layer of waterproof insulation between me and the slush/mud/gravel etc.

I ordered a NOS kick-down switch on flea bay. Several parts supplier sites took my money, and then refunded it a few days later with an apology that the part is no longer available.
Driving a CUCV up a steep hill without a kick-down switch reminds me of an old Chinese proverb. "The ox is...
I know this stuff is not likely available, but I figured I'd ask just in case.
I need half a dozen of these straps used to hold a litter in place in an M1010. I'd appreciate any pointers folks might have.
In the -20 TM they are: 37-0051 STRAP, WEBBING
I also need the large aluminum panel with...
I am very curious about the black part that's visible at the top of your accelerator arm. That's the part I am missing. If anyone has one, or has pictures of one, I'd be very interested to see them. I replaced it with a flat washer, but I don't really know what it was I was replacing. Thanks!
So it appears that the parts that flew past my face were parts of the kickdown switch. Maybe when the zip tie parted, that allowed the accelerator arm to exceed the range of motion of the switch.
My cable has the end swage. It's missing a part that sits between the 2 swages and fits in the hole in the accelerator lever arm.
I tried pushing the cable through the firewall. I'd have to remove all the insulation in order to be able to compress the "ears" and push the cable through. Too...
Well that was miserable. When I played football, I was Left Tackle, so you can imagine how well I fit under the dash of a CUCV. I can't get more than one hand on the cable at a time, so my options are limited. I split a short length of hose, wrapped it around the last 2" of the cable, and...
I've been feeling like the truck is pretty solid and reliable, until this morning.Heading into work, traffic was heavy and I had to step on the gas to get into a narrow gap. When I stepped on the gas, I heard a "snap", something flew past my face, and the accelerator pedal was no longer...
