Thats incorrect. When you quench, either in oil, or water you are in essence freezing all the molecule in place. If you want to temper(soften) you heat, and then let it cool on it's own, no quench.
Some tool steels are different. D-2 is a air hardening steel, no quench.
Yes it's from Knox, and no i didn't preview. I don't think it's a tie down pont, you can see the tie downs on the bumper, and there isn't one on the other side.
Heres another link showing how flange nuts are widely used to attach large truck tires.
Add up the holding force of the 16 studs comes to 750,000 lbs of force.
With 6 studs on the axle you have 300,00 lbs of force holding the assembly to the truck...
The studs are pressed in, and my plates holes are sized the same as the rim to accept pressed in studs.
I don't believe its necessary, but i do not argue that it would optimize the assembly.
Ok, for a dose of reality. All manufactured items are made to a tolerance. That is how far from ideal it can be. If anybody is thinking that the wheels on any of their vehicles is somehow running perfect, think again.

Ok, my answers in red.
There are a bunch of these plates made by others, and being used now. If someone has not flipped their hubs, then they have the same condition as mounting my plates behind the rim.
Has anybody questioned using a 3/8 plate on the steer axle with the severe side load...
The remark about "it being an issue" was in reference to somebody not being able to torque the nuts tight enough, or somebody who wouldn't do any kind of PM.
With the nuts loose, the plate has about .040 of movement, .020 side to side. Nowhere near the 1/4" that was mentioned earlier.
The...
The holes in the plate are smaller than the clearance thru hole in the rim, so it doesn't move a 1/4", but there is some.
Tightening the outer nuts to spec, is important. If this is an issue for somebody, than they should swap the studs.
This is the same as somebody letting there lugnuts get...
I'm a manufacturer of metal goods. I buy millions of pounds of steel a year.
My steel suppliers appreciate my business, so i get pricing very few people can touch. I pass the savings on.
These kind of products are what i make every day, i have been doing it for decades.
