sure is - maybe a little more
I've had mine loaded with 50 amps/leg & 240 volts output (pretty resistive load) for 1/2 hour with no issues (that would be 12 kw)
The first thing Jerry is the Nato plug wiring for supporting operation of 2 gensets. Something that will never happen in my application.
I want to rewire the low oil pressure & overtemp safeties into a PLC - similar to what Sewerzuk did, but I want to idividually monitor the switches and...
Good point Carl - if, as you assume, the control box hasn't been modified.
I've had my 003 for a few months now and am planning to remove a lot of 'unnecessary' wiring.
Call me silly but it sure sounds like its related to you pulling that emergency shut off . . .
I would try to find the wires to it & jump it out. An easy 1st step.
Welcome to the board Nathanto. There are a lot of helpful people here and its a tremendous resource of knowledge. I know most people have been very helpful to me.
a simple thing to eliminate is the oil pressure safety switch - you can jump that
I had a bad one on my 003 but that won't account for any bogging - just dieing
lol - I feel your 'pain'
We also lost power in that freak Oct storm for 4 days :-( and also picked up a MEP-003A (my son pulled it up here for Thanksgiving). Now that it is running & wired up I'm sure we will nbever lose power again
I did crank it up 2 days ago & ran the house on it for an hour.
You are 100% correct Stalwart! In my case I had to locate a 400 amp switch. Most homes have 200 amp service so a 200 amp xfer switch would do the trick. btw I did a quick search on ebay and found several manual 200 amp switches between $300-$500.
If you are concerned about putting a generator...
:-D actually no, there is a fairly 'normal' electrical load. When I built the house in '86 I did all the wiring (5 miles of romex in the house). We have over a 500' run from the street and I wanted the power company run larger wire. The only way they would do it was if I put in a 400 amp...
I think the transfer switch is the way to go. I have multiple circuit breaker boxes located on opposite sides of my house so I couldn't easily isolate just those circuits I wanted to power from the generator. Having a 400 amp service meant getting a 400 amp transfer switch. With a little...
Thanks for the info Doug. Yes, there was the dreaded CARC over everything but I manually worked the linkage & it was pretty smooth. Just as a precaution I sprayed it with WD40.
This was going to be a weekend project but it looks like we won't be available . . . so the weekend after I will...
Thanks Jerry!
I was trying to get a channellock in there & a long needlenose but there is no room to turn. . . I was too chicken to try tapping on the teeth but now knowing its been done before I can be a hero
coyote62ny thanks for your comments also. I have the neutral running back...
So my genset is now installed and running. I have had it loaded to about 90% of rated load using the house appliances - upper & lower ovens, toaster, ac, etc). Although the voltage barely moves from 0 to the load I applied (maybe a volt) the frequency is another matter. I get almost 3 Hz droop...
Sewerzuk I have followd your posts religiously and am thinking about getting an 004 or 005 to convert as a project. A big thanks for all the info you have posted - not the least is the videos.
I have one question tho. After you convert, say the 004 to single phase, is the wire size big enough...
I believe this is VERY good advice. A tantalum behaves very differently than an electrolytic even though they may have exactly the same ratings. Tantalums are much better at killing transient 'spikes' (lower impedance at higher frequencies) where electrolytics are better at ripple filtering...
