5-Ton battery relocate and secret battery shut off

Pete, Thanks! Enjoy the kit, and nice truck! And, for everyone else, as the seller, Pete was great to deal with and it was a pleasant transaction. Andy

    Why a 5 ton instead of a 2.5 ton?

Yes, it's much quieter. The relocated stack and the hood insulation make it rather pleasurable to drive, at least compared to an M818. Andy

M931A1 air ride suspension got it home yesterday

So you're the one who outbid me! Congrats, and enjoy the truck! Andy

    Why a 5 ton instead of a 2.5 ton?

My version would be: 1. Pick up deuce brake drum and carry across yard. 2. Pick up 5 ton brake drum and carry across yard. 3. Buy a forklift and never carry anything heavy again. Andy

    Welding shop on wheels

Hobart is now owned by Miller (which is owned by another large company). Anyway, the Miller website has a manual download section that is fairly complete. I couldn't see a model number on the tags, but you may be able to do a search and find a manual and specs on the welder (or something...

tachograph better than speedo and tach?

I prefer the 2 separate gauges. It's much easier to glance down at the tachometer and determine if I need to shift when you have only one gauge to focus on. I ignore the speedometer, as I doubt I'll ever get a speeding ticket in any of my trucks. Andy

    What tires are these??

Possibly 14.00 x 20's (off of a bridge truck) squeezed on M35 wheels. Andy

    Mobile Shop Trailer Recovery

Up a 3% grade over a distance of 2 miles? It's easy compared to what an M818 would be like (20mph, or less), but 500 hp/1800 ft lbs would be better. Andy

    Mobile Shop Trailer Recovery

On 10 November this year, I won a GL auction for a mobile shop trailer (SGPRSMD) in Ft Leonard Wood, MO. Payment was made, EUC cleared, blah blah blah.. Anyway, Friday, 16 Dec, a friend (Hairba11) and I drove down to pick it up. I took one on my M915's to get it. All in all, it was a smooth...

    M939 series towing procedures

When I flat towed 2 of them, I removed both driveshafts. If towing w/ the front in the air, then I would only remove the rear driveshaft. I can't comment on the transmission question, as I am still a novice w/ these trucks. Andy

Converting the multi-fuel to pure diesel...

And I'll bet she was even more pissed when the new engineer came up with an idea that saved the company 5-6 figures in production costs.... Andy

    Camp Shelby 5T Home!

Tim, Speaking from personal experience, sell the M818 and buy an M931. These trucks are exponentially better then the M818's (I have 4 M818's and 3 M931's). They drive better, they're quieter in the cab, the transmission is GREAT, and overall are better trucks. Oh, and nearly all of them have...

    Commercial use of M915's, 916's, 920's etc...

Hairba11 and I have installed a handfull of things on one of my M915A1's, one of which is a toolbox behind the cab. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/5-ton-mods-hot-rodding/75340-m915-battery-relocation-kit-toolbox-mod.html Andy

M817 Gainesville FL. to Chester NH.

James, For trucks in the Southeast I've used Stanley Crawford, a Landstar agent (he's a member here, but I don't know what his user name is). Last time I used him it was for an M920 from SC to StL. Used an RGN and he took care of me. His phone is 757-859-6575, email is...
