Loctite would be far more effective.

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

... and I'm sure the military got a pretty good "volume" and/or "good customer" discount. Edit- Punched in "2001 AM General- Hummer" on Jasper's website and got prices of $4800 for a complete, $7800 for a running complete. Not sure what other costs would be involved down either route, because...

    My M1009 Plan

On the topic of fuel economy, it's mostly a lost cause with these vehicles. If you want economy, buy something that gets better economy, not a 20+ year old truck. With current diesel prices, you're losing on the price per gallon end. Around town you lose because you're hauling around what, 5000...

    My M1009 Plan

3.08 is a crappy ratio for anything but fuel economy. Deeper gears give you more torque multiplication- better for towing, hauling, off-roading, and generally accelerating. Taller tires will only make crappy 3.08s crappier, not to mention stress the crap-o gov-bomb, which brings us to... The...

Total destruction of all End-Use items (end of trucks???)

The federal government's primary focus in getting older vehicles off the road is to keep the auto industry in business. You're living in California, and yeah, in California, they're obsessed with getting old cars off the road for emissions reasons, but in the rest of the country, it just isn't so.

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

As far as I know, the Optimizer is the latest and greatest, but I'll look into what's what. I'm looking at putting a new (rebuilt) 6.5L with a new (rebuilt) SM465, and then I'll basically have a brand new truck. For as little as I use the thing, it'll be my last truck for sure. As such, I'm...

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

You mean the 6500 Optimizer? These guys currently have them on special for $5000. Tempting. Really tempting. http://www.65ldiesel.com/catalog/item/26238/3966.htm

    My M1009 Plan

I dunno, I figured if you were going to do all the other modifications, the axles seemed a more logical place to start. Lots of guys never have a problem with them, but lots of guys' trucks don't ever go off road. My recommendation would be to skip all that other crap, at least for the short...

yet one more question on glow plugs, need some fast help

Three of mine did. Everybody says they don't swell, but everybody also reports that they do, in fact, swell. That said, none of mine were bad enough that they gave me any trouble coming out.

    My M1009 Plan

Well, the 3/4 and 1-ton axles are pretty readily available from junkyards, and the fitment is pretty well documented. Try www.coloradok5.com for more info.

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

I'd say that the 6.2 with decent gearing is fine for off-roading, and it's fine for plowing, too. Sure, more power would be even better, but you can't win 'em all.

yet one more question on glow plugs, need some fast help

Pull the glow plug card out so that the plugs don't come on, spray some starting fluid in the intake and then see if it fires. If it does, you are more likely to have a fuel issue than a glow plug issue. The warnings about not using starting fluid are due to the automatic glow plugs. I guess...

    Question about injector pump.

The cutoff solenoid, um, cuts off the pump to shut down the truck. The cold advance solenoid advances timing when the engine is cold to speed warmup times.

    My M1009 Plan

First thing I'd do is upgrade the axles and the gearing. 3/4 ton axles with a real locker and 3.73s should do it.

    reliable diesel rebuilders?

6BT swap would be awesome, but either a) expensive, b) a ton of work or c) both. It will involve a fair amount of custom fabrication. Others have done it, I considered it, but won't be going down that road. A 6.2 (well, I'm planning to replace my 6.2 with a 6.5) with deep gears (the 4.56s should...

    2 odometers @ 00000.0 ea.

CUCV odometers only go up to 99,999 as well, but not a whole lot of them get used enough to roll over, especially the M1008s. Even if they do, it's not all that hard to tell a 20,000 mile vehicle from a 120,000 mile vehicle.

    2 odometers @ 00000.0 ea.

No, selling the part isn't a crime. And no, selling a vehicle that has an altered odometer isn't necessarily a crime, either, with the proper disclosures. But, would you trust somebody who was telling you "well, yeah, um, it had X miles on it, then I rezeroed the odometer, so the total mileage...
