    Turbo

There is at least one other CUCV/Miata owner, and at least one other person who previously owned a Miata and now owns a CUCV. Anyway, my Miata will outrun my buddy's Mustang. He's got a 302, 4.10s, exhaust and intake. :D

    Turbo

I've seen them online for $1800-$2500ish, depending on the website, what sales they're running, etc. Even from the most expensive outlets, they're still cheap, relatively speaking.

    Insurance ???????

It happens. I've got a few friends who have written various technical books here and there, sometimes it's their error that they just missed, sometimes it's a printing error, sometimes nobody is quite sure where the heck the error came from. Thanks for clarifying.

    Insurance ???????

My calling you a liar was under the assumption that you knew what you were talking about and deliberately telling someone otherwise. My first assumption was incorrect.

    35's and shifting?

Sounds like a vacuum and/or valve issue. Just pick up a new modulator valve and a couple feet of vacuum line.

    Insurance ???????

If he says it's a K20, he's wrong. Don't believe me, pull the VIN yourself. Or just open the glovebox and look at the options sticker. But maybe you'll believe him over GM.

    Insurance ???????

IT. IS. A. K30. NOT. A. K20. Different models. Hope that was clear. Horsehockey. Here, I'll quote it back to you: I'd say telling somebody that a K30 is a K20 is an outright lie. Then again, since you don't seem to know any better, maybe it's just innocent ignorance.

    Turbo

What do they run? I thought they were around $2000-$2500- that's pretty darn cheap compared to turbo kits on other cars. A stripped-down turbo kit for my Miata runs $2000 or so, mid-range turbo setup (where I'd want to start off) is in the $3000-$3500 range, and a high-end setup with standalone...

    Insurance ???????

Thank you. Maybe hearing it from someone who worked in the industry will get that through peoples' heads. My knowledge of the issues comes from hot rodders misrepresenting their vehicles, for whatever that's worth. They'd brag about how they were paying such cheap insurance, and then they'd...

    35's and shifting?

It pretty much is. Welcome to the dog**** ratios of the TH400. I mean, 2.48, 1.48, 1 may be good for some things, but a diesel truck with a fair amount of low end grunt isn't one of those things.

could a bent drive shaft crack a th400

Forklift could have cracked the case, and you just didn't notice it.

    Insurance ???????

Ok, you've missed the point. You can tell them it's a friggin pope mobile if you want to, but it's not. You can try to withhold information, but you give them the VIN, so they can pull the year, model and package relatively easily from their database. For newer vehicles, they always pull the...

    Insurance ???????

Yay! Insurance fraud is fun! It is NOT a 3/4 ton truck. It is, however, based on a 1-ton truck, a Chevy K30. No problems on current Geico policy, although Progressive was a pile of **** because it came back as a military vehicle, and they didn't like that. There's really no point lying...

how cold has it been and started?

I just use regular old starting fluid. Nothing fancy, just a shot in the intake. The warning on the air cleaner is due to the automatic glow plugs. If the starting fluid hits a hot glow plug, it'll go off wherever the piston happens to be, possibly on multiple cylinders simultaneously, which is...

how cold has it been and started?

Mine has never had starting issues (outside of fuel interruption issues that I'm working out) regardless of temperature. Then again, when it's below freezing, I skip the glow plugs and use starting fluid.

    Turbo

Or grab a whole setup off of a 6.5. If you're willing to pay "quite a bit," the $2-3000 for a brand new setup off the interwebz is the easy way to go, no question.

New guy here - couple of ?'s

The alternators are not "different" in the factory configuration, nor do they "serve different purposes." They are the same alternator, with an isolated ground, wired in series. One provides 12v, the other bumps it up with an additional 12v to get 24v- same as the batteries. Where they *could*...

    Alternator Trouble

Only the 12-24v one needs to be isolated ground. The 0-12v one can be a regular alternator.

    Will not start?

Is the injection pump solenoid shot? Where in Howard County are you?
  20. H

    Alternator Trouble

Ok, so you can safely say that it is an instrumentation issue rather than an actual fault in the alternator. That should be fun to track down. Again, check to make sure the wiring on both alternators is the same.
