Yankee Lady
The halftrack was invited to a Fly-In this past July.
Went for a ride in the beautifully restored "Yankee Lady"...... unforgettable.
My Uncle was a bombardier in the Fortress and I got to sit in his "office chair".
If you get the opportunity, take it. Who knows how much longer...
Here's my Sno-Cat.
An amphibious 1963 BV 202, made by Bolinder Munktell in Sweden. A subsidiary of Volvo.
One of two tested by the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in 1965. Listed in "US Tracked Vehicles."
Both went to Alaska and served with CRREL...Cold Regions Research and Engineering...
Bad Idea
The Israelis re-powered a lot of US Halftracks with Diesels from the M113.
Yes, they went faster.
They were also at war with unlimited resources.
The tracks we currently use on our HT's are the ones the Israelis made back in the early 90's, a polyurethane similar to fork lift tire...
Stupid.;)
There are guys that have them titled/licensed and do drive them on public roads.
Why not?
They have rubber tracks, headlights , horn and windshield wipers.
Tail lights are legal but useless, no turn signals.
Personally speaking, to go any distance on a regular basis is goofy...
Here's what they look like before the vultures get to them.
I think it's the most capable vehicle I'v ever owned. Never been stuck.
Coming out of a Wisconsin lake and also sitting on top of 3 feet of snow.
Interesting.......
No data plates I guess?
Any evidence of Air Force markings?
Do you know how big this gun ring was, sounds like maybe a radar guided AA gun?
The Army Air Force also used that chassis as airport crash trucks late in WWII.
Weren't there some bases in Colorado during the war?
Don't tell Gary.
Glad to see that they are working.
Keep us posted on the road tests.
My originals are still in really good shape but I have another set of crabs I may have done for down the road.
I had the HT in a parade over the 4th and there was a very nice M4 there also.
He said his buddy also had one he was working on.
They both came out of an auction in SD a few years ago.
Wendell,
Here's the mob.......
Just got the 15 Ton Carry All flat deck, they were used a lot on the Red Ball Highway.
Gonna get some aluminum ramps made and the half track will just fit on it.
Found a guy in S Dakota that has a good price with good product.
Paid a little more than your low...
Hey Wendell,
That's a nice tanker you got. I don't think I've seen that yet. I like it.
There is a WWII military 2000 gallon with a dolly nearby me that's been calling my name......I hate that. Seeing yours make me think I should get it.
I'll post a couple pics of my other new project...
Sad news. Sorry to hear this.
Too bad it's the same week end as the Air Expo out at Flying Cloud.
Don't you guys also have an IH half track? Have any spare parts/tracks/armor pieces?
