I drive pretty conservatively (maybe an understatement). I hate wasting fuel and don't see a need as the M1009 isn't exactly a zippy vehicle. Mine usually shifts at around 15 and then again at 35-40. Seems it should shift into 3rd a little sooner, though as its revving pretty good at that...
Alright, so I got under the little beast and took the bellhousing cover off. I found exactly nothing. There didn't appear to be anything but a trace of fluid inside. (and the flywheel looks good, too). I was able to see a bit more and dug around a bit. I checked the fuel lines from tank to...
Sounds like fun . Never done this before. Is it just a simple removal of a few bolts to take off the bellhousing cover? I'll check the fuel lines at the GPs this afternoon, too. Anything else to look for?
Okay, so I took the air cleaner off and checked the main engine compartment. It doesn't look like there's any pooling or seeping anywhere around the IP. Lines to and from the fuel filter are good, too. Is there a fuel line that runs over the top of the bellhousing? I checked the oil too, and...
Okay, so I cleaned up the mess around the area and watched the drip actually form. It's coming out of the little hole (see attached pic). Is this hole here for a reason? I'm completely confused.
So my M1009 just started leaking 2 days ago. Leak is a clear slick fluid- smells like diesel kleen (?) I'm taking the truck out for a highway drive a few hours away this weekend, so I'm hoping I can get this fixed. I'm still basically a newb so I'm completely ignorant of what's going on here...
Thanks Mark! I got mine on Monday and put one on. Like others, my old one was pretty gunked up. The swap out took about 5 minutes, and my acceleration and idle has improved. I'm sending a buddy your way if you have any left.
So, I'm totally going to hijack this thread- I was looking for a good pic of a USMC 1009 and came across this thread:
is this a military blazer or a spoof ? - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board
Have a good laugh reading some of the most ignorant comments ever written about CUCVs.

The original factory "option" list from GM is laminated and still stuck to the inside of my glovebox door. It lists the interior color as "bronze". It also shows other "options" such as "Single color paint- green", "Exterior- Camouflage", the "J-Code Emissions", etc.
Unless you're dead set on using the burgundy color, quite a few guys on here have had good results using spray paint specifically made for vinyl/plastic. Some have mentioned the Krylon Fusion: Their camo paint colors all have the fusion technology. All of my plastic/vinyl looks terrible. I'm...
So I replaced every fuse in the box including the 2 flasher fuses and now I have lights and turn signals again. Incidentally, I also now how my underdash courtesy light (added bonus!). Still the question stands- why would the fuses go bad without actually blowing? Everyone I replaced still...
Consider replacing the fuel filter and the vacuum lines. Cheapest easiest thing, and probably needs to be done, anyway, even if there's another issue involved.
My truck ran decent when I picked it up, but was a bit rough and inconsistent. Changed the fuel filter and added some diesel kleen to...
Alright- so even though the fuses all were complete, I decided to replace them. And guess what- I now have headlights, taillights and blackout lights. Turn indicators/hazards are still a no-go.
So, I'm going to replace the flasher fuses tonight, replace the alt belts and test the batteries...
Alright- that will happen tomorrow afternoon, probably. Then I'll get back with y'all. Thanks for all the help so far.
So- if I have power at the fuse terminals, would that mean the switch is good or bad? I'm not sure which direction the power is flowing. I understand a circuit (I've wired...
Yeah, just tried that. Nothing. I stuck my head up under there and check for anything loose. No wires hanging, broken, melted or otherwise suspicious looking. All the connections on the service and blackout light switches are good. Re-checked the fuses to be sure I hadn't missed something...
*bump*
(My wife says "Just come to bed, you can't do anything until tomorrow", which is true, but I'd sleep better if I thought I knew what I needed to do. And I'm a SS addict, anyhow, so what's another few hits off the pipe gonna hurt, eh?)
So, basically, I'm electrically challenged and don't have the first clue what I'm looking for (even if I did have a multimeter to check the circuits- which I'll be buying tomorrow). I can't read wiring diagrams either (working that too!).
So, can anyone break this down Barney-style? What am I...
