maybe a rock got up in there and ground around.. If they have oil on them and those chunks gone, I would keep them as spares and replace or reline those. YMMV
LOL ok, the rope is holding the handle of the REB kit from moving forward into engaging the front axle. It has a cut out on the plate for the handle to sit in, but I cant seem to get it in there. I still have some adjusting to do.

No, that gear shift is strictly for engaging the frknt wheels. In the up position, the front axle is free, and in the down position, it activates the axle.
I've got a 5 hour drive ahead of me to get them, but I'll post them up tonight. I may get some from underneath, but if it's wet, you're only getting pics from the top. Lol
My 67 has a floor shift that engages the front axle. It's located back and to the right of the shifter for the trans. If I wasn't 5 hours from my deuce, I would take a picture for you.
I've got a radiator leaking from what it sounds like the same spot. For your battery issue, I've had batteries explode, they don't come or charge around anything that I deem as important. The battery warmer should be able to be mounted on the truck with the batteries, I would warm and charge...
