Awhile back I had the non-releasing brake issue that some of the A3 owners are running into (http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?88172-M109A4-brakes-locked-up!). I finally got it figured out thanks to a lot of suggestions on here (particularly peashooter) and wanted to post some...
Welcome from the Colorado contingent!
Good to see you picking up the habit. If you get a chance check out the MVCC (mvcconline.org). We meet once a month usually in Sedalia (just to your north) and do a lot of displays and parades. Also lots of resources in the club for how-to and...
steelandcanvas, yeah, between working 70+ hours the last three weeks with no end in sight and this truck driving me nuts in what little free time I've got I'm wiped out.
Need to get this thing rolling for the mini-rally next weekend and so I have enough time to redo the triple bunk (going quad)...
ok before we start, yes I have read the TMs. repeatedly. And I've tried both the site and google search of the site, but no joy for specific tips. And yes, I am well aware of how much some folks hate the A3. But thats what I've got sitting broken in the backyard and thats what I need help...
Awesome build. I will be stealing many ideas for mine. :naner:
odd question for you: Where did you get the couch? (it would be about perfect for my build)
Sorry its not an M2, its an M1919. And its mounted on a post/pedestal mount in the back of the jeep in the foreground, not on the deuce.
I'll try to get a quick video I have all the vehicles in our group passing by at the beginning of the parade posted tomorrow night.
Status report:
As steelandcanvas said the truck still has the issue. I'm a yard parker so at the mercy of the weather on top of family distractions. But its still taking me too long to get after this issue.
We got it out to s&c's place to get it into a shop for awhile (thanks john). While it...
No. Absolutely not. NO.
When I switched from 9.00s to 11.00s someone at the tire shop stuck 9.00 tubes in some of the tires since he remembered those coming out. Week and a half later TWO tubes had split with full air loss while driving around on improved roads. No offroading, no curb...
Thats the modern size designation for the military 14.5x20 tires that were used on A3 deuces.

They are close enough to the 11.00x20s to run on the same truck, but not the same axle.
And like others...
I have both variants so from experience here are my thoughts.
The A3 is roughly 10mph slower than the A2 despite the taller tires (the A3 14.5s are equal height to 11.00x20s vs the A2 9.00x20s). This is completely due to A3s 4 speed non-overdrive automatic vs the A2s 5 speed overdrive manual...
More of an after action, but here is video and pictures I took from the MVCC's convoy to/from and in the 2012 Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade.
First is the video. There are some still frames in the video from when my camera person (my 11 year old daughter) didnt keep the camcorder still...
There are plenty of M37s out there to be found and setup like you are suggesting. The M43s with intact bodies are getting harder to find and it'd be nice to save a few.
Besides, if you cut off the body you are still going to have to Fab the back of the cab and a bed. Easier to grab an M37 in...
I'm also 6'3" and have been struggling with the wipers-in-line-of-sight issue. I especially hate having to stop at lights where the cross street is only two lanes. For short runs its not too bad, but on longer runs I try to remember to lean my head both ways so the kink in the neck will be even...
