5 ton wheels are made from 3/8 thick steel, so 3/8 should be fine
i have seen those modified hemmit wheels, they are nice, just a plate, but laser cutting was not close enough to get them where the guy wanted them, so he had scrapped the originals and made more plates with the laser, the plates...
you should get a 3rd battery, a car battery and add an alternator, the battery should not be connected in any way to the 2 batteries used for the trucks 24 volt system.......

be careful to make sure the convertor is seated in the front pump full before tightening things down, if not the pump rotor gets broken..........
before reassembly push in on the convertor while spinning it, you will feel it bottom out
mine has been hard to start recently, i had to hold her half way to the floor and crank to get her to fire....... could be filters, they were recently changed...........
no fuel leaks..... i guess i will check the filters
mine has had some starting troubles lately, like it needs to have the pedal pushed halfway down before it fires up.... almost like it is not getting fuel.......

i would love them but the price is too high.....
maybee 150 a set, if i blow too many of the 24 v bulbs i will swap in some 12 v bulbs in series that may work..or use my 12 v alternator to power a pair....
