I went with 255/85-16's on my 1008. Made by Summit, they are branded as Mud Dawg's and are similar to the old KM1's by BFG. btw, BFG makes the KM2 in this size. about 1/2" taller than a 28/75-16 and fit nicely on the stock wheels that are skinny. They are a standard equilavent to a...
do the 'shade tree test' swap the alternators and see if Gen 2 light is on... if so its the alternator that has decided it didn't want to play anymore. If the gen 1 light remains on you can began the wiring fun. been there done that... but as you know this site is a great source of endless...
I had to do the light on mine.... when the wife is a assistant district attorney you can't get tickets... makes wife mad when me and the MV get pulled over same for the other 'faster' cars... my 101a2 trailer is still waiting on registration before I can take it out for use.
I bought the trailer light kit with tag holder at local auto parts store. It has LED light and works really well. I drilled through the bumper for 2 bolts and drilled wire hole where I put a grommett in to protect and neatly finish the job. COnnected to running lights and works great. I...
ohh yeah, that death wobble is a B.... I did the same thing with a steering stabilizer and I also put in a 'slightly used' steering box and that really helped. Picked it up at the junkyard. No play in steering now. I still have to get shocks, just now sure which ones.
Salvage Yard
Found this on page fpr 'salvage yards' Great yard in Western NC near Hendersonville that is all MV. Chief_919 I think it the one that posted it on the salvage yard link. No web page and I don't think he wants one either, but I have really gotten lots of parts from him and he...

Couldn't have done it with out the help...
trailer
Picked up a great 101a2 trailer the other week. Mint condition... until I start to haul wood, mulch, and some rock... Not even a scatch on it and all the lights work great, parking brakes, and surge breaks really help. :D
other electrical
Rebuilt Gen 1 and added new plugs to both Alternators... these were OTS at the parts store and with the old broken ones replaced I got good voltage. Use the dielectric grease on all connectors and things seam to work great. Picked up a 'boat trailer' LED light and wired this...
interior mods
Added a 12v fuse block (posted in past) I picked it up at a chain parts store and wired it to bat1 for 12v power. Has 6 circuits. So far I have 12v outlet and my CB wired to it. Hope to add my rechargable light, driving lights, and maybe a radio. I will use a relay for the...
New Tires= 255/85-16
Put on Mud Dawg 255/85-16 Good size for the truck's wheel and are about 1/2" taller then the 285/75. Don't rub a bit and sure does drive nice since changing from the old gov tires.
Able to snap a few pics today... been working on truck for about 6 months. Picked up at a local used car dealer that bought entire lot of them from GL... I got a great deal on a 'fixer upper' that the dealer had put a 12v starter on and was having 'starter trouble'... guys, I couldn't have...
You may be able to check out Delk's down in Abermarle for a set of H1 wheels and tires. THey have a website: Delk's Army Navy Surplus_Home but calling is good idea.
Dieselclean- white bottle in winter and gray in the warmer months here in NC. Haven't had any issues on 2 CUCV's doing about 10k a year. As for measuring I was using the lid from a old clothes detergent bottle... I think it was 4oz. after awhile I got a feel for it and would just add by...
I know the truck you got in pinnicle, I live nearby and have fmaily in the area. Good deal on the truck... he wanted 3k on ebay! I figured it may have been a 12v conversion since the voltmeter was a 12v meter... but maybe not. Learn to use a multimeter to keep up with the electrical...
work on 2 CUCV's and just put GP's in one... decided to put new conectors that would fit the AC plugs. They work great and figured with my metal working skills I would be better off. If I replace them on truck 2 I will do the same GP's and new connectors but will use a bit of heat shrink on...
You can do it in a day if you find you must do the swap. I have had to do it on civ trucks and once on my CUCV to put on a new flywhee. It was a long day but with a pal and a import trans jack we got it done. I am a shadetree guy so all the shop we had was dirt driveway and HD jack stands...
Just had the autozone 7157 'caddy' alternator for only 2 months... and it went out. It worked for a little while, but the strain was more than it could bare. Since it was under warranty I was able to get the refund... went ahead and picked up a 'junk' gen from a old CUCV and had it rebuilt...
Here is a few pics of a 6 circuit box I bought at Advanced Auto... wired to Batt #1 for constant 12v power. Good for light duty usage. I have a lighter on it now, also adding my flash light, regular cig lighter (factory). maybe some other things. I ran a 10g wire, but if you are going to put...
