Shift Shaft seal replacement on an A5 transaxle

I understand there are two different possibilities. National 340771 or NAPA 4938 The NAPA 4938 is supposed to be the metal one? Thanks! Hey, I just noticed your list of vehicles - Eeyore and Money Pit. We have been talking to each other on that "other" forum. :D You have been great help...

Shift Shaft seal replacement on an A5 transaxle

Today must be the day shift shaft seal threads get answered. I have another thread started on a different forum and it was answered also. We don't have a rock auto here, but I think I have some part numbers from NAPA and O'Reily's. I guess I had better get the seals first and then get the old...

Shift Shaft seal replacement on an A5 transaxle

Is there an easy way to replace the shift shaft seals on the High/Low shifter on an A5 transaxle without removing the cover? Mine is leaking pretty bad. If not, I might just keep changing the gear oil a little at a time. :) Thanks!

    Footman Loop?

The plate under the deck between the tires? It covers the battery. They did a good job (I think) installing the starter and battery. I am considering moving the battery to another location by the hour meter and replacing it with a smaller "motorcycle" type battery. This would allow me to...

    Footman Loop?

Well, that didn't take as long as I thought it would. This might not be the best way to do it. Sorry about the link. If there is a better / preferred way to do it, let me know. Jackson pictures by 6270_Productions - Photobucket My "recoiless rifle" is a whole other story. If you want to...

    Footman Loop?

Just returned from taking some photos. Give me a minute (or 30) and I will get them posted. There is another site - not sure where, but I am sure it is in my bookmarks - that showed how one guy had welded a socket to a piece of round stock and then turned it down on his lathe. It looked pretty...

    Footman Loop?

It has been converted to an electric start and I think they did a pretty good job - switch locations, battery location, etc. It does not have an alternator - just put the battery on a charger every now and again - not a big problem and I think I like it better than an alternator. It meets my...

    Footman Loop?

I am the new owner of an M-274 A5 Mule - Baifield Industries serial number 10588 with a USMC registration number of 324882. Delivery date was 4 - 1968. It is mostly original with the exception of added electric start and I am trying to restore it even further. I am looking through TM...
