How do you change a tire

Split rims scared the bejeepers outta me even back when I still thought I was immortal. I never had a lock ring blow off. However I did refuse to re-inflate a few after I fixed them because the lock ring or rim was in bad shape. I'd put them back on the truck, give the driver the air hose, and...

How do you change a tire

Heh....its worse. I was a tire monkey in an earlier life. I was an engineer until recently, and I did write some specs. But deep down inside, I'm just a simple country boy try'in to do my best in a complex technological environment Regards Jim

How do you change a tire

I worked in a truck stop tire shop for five years. Dismounted and remounted a lot of 20" and 22" tube type, semi truck tires on flat based, lock ring type wheels. The correct terminology is "multi piece rim" not "split rim". In the true split rim type the lock ring was a complete ring...

    glow plug warming buttons

Just installed one in mine: Manufacturer = Dorman part # = 85984 (60 amp momentary on with rubber boot over button) part # = 85935 (15 amp momentary on w/o rubber boot) Got mine at Advance Auto. I think a lot of auto supply joints carry Dorman switches. Dorman catalog link - 85984 is...

    looking for a GOER

Dean Surplus in Rolla MO had a couple 10 years ago. These were built by Caterpillar Tractor Co. There were based on a production tractor/scraper outfit. I assume that the engine, transmission, hitch and other major systems were standard CAT parts. CAT never used to obsolete parts and prided...

    M105A2 and M101A1 trailers

The M105 is too heavy and probably too tall at the hitch. On a hard level surface you can roll the M101 around by hand a ways. They pull easy too. Having the racks an canvas up does stop a lot more wind at hiway speed. Regards Jim

Pintle Hitch: Are M1008 Series & M1009 Hitches Interchangable?

Bought an M1009, the pintle hitch was missing. It has the socket for the pintle shaft and slotted plate for safety chain hooks (see photo). Will a hitch from an M1008 Series truck work with what I have or are other adapters and misc. gizmos required to get it properly installed? Thanks in...

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

    1. The units i have been looking at don't have keys where may i find some if i get one of these? The CUCV's all used the same ignition key. A guy on ebay sells them or you ca have one made. A GM/Chevy dealer or locksmith can do it from the codes which are: BLANK = B BLIND CODE = 73Y2...

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

Happy anniversary to the Corps! Man I dunno about the turbo. One more (expensive) thing to buy and break. Gonna have my plate full for a while getting all the little stuff squared away. Regards Jim

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

I bid on what looks like the same unit. CONGRATS!! Thank you sir - hope we knew what we were doing. This one was close enough I could go and eyeball it before bidding. I'm still looking for my first MV This is my second. Had a Dodge M37 but the building it was stored in burned to the...

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

    Has Anyone Lowered an M101-A2?

Don't know. Heard of swapping axles but not hubs. Is your trailer lunette in the high or low position? It can be changed for a 2 or 3 inch height difference. Jim

    Has Anyone Lowered an M101-A2?

I should have taken hitch height measurements before I started this thread. I bolted a pintle hitch directly to the face of the step bumper on an F150 4WD and it was the same height as the lunette on an M101 trailer with the lunette turned down to the low position. The M101-A2 lunette is a...

    Has Anyone Lowered an M101-A2?

Might be able to loose a couple of inches by using a different tire on the trailer but I think the difference is about 5 inches. I should have gotten measurements before I started this thread. Jim

    Brought An M1009 Home Today

Bought a 1986 M1009 from GSA. According to the GSA rep the vehicle came from an Air Force or Air Guard unit in the Indianopolis area. Had been parked for about a year in a state surplus yard. Started with a jump from a 5 ton tractor. Drove it 120 miles to home without problems. Engine bay and...

    Has Anyone Lowered an M101-A2?

I'd like to be able to tow an M101-A2 trailer with a civilian pickup or M1009 without using a vertically extended receiver hitch pintle adapter. Due to the surge brake unit, the A2 lunette is higher than the M101 & M101-A1. Even with the tallest adapter available the A2 is still down in the...

    My 1952 M38 Project

Does it have an aftermarket windshield washer pump/tank under the hood which is piped to spigot under the dash? Does the windshield washer tank smell like whiskey? If so, the jeep was named "Burple" and was used by an old friend of mine for low speed, mellowed out, backroad cruising. The...

How To Wake-up a Mothballed CUCV?

Sound wisdom, but I don't think my 2.7L Tacoma would handle it. Thats part of the reason I'm interested in a M1009 - being able to tow a couple of tons once in a while.

How To Wake-up a Mothballed CUCV?

hah...I never saw a hill that wasn't worth dying on. Or maybe in this case, financially ruined.
