The FRG-7 is set up for 12V so I hoped it was built to handle some vibes.
Probably a bad idea...sigh.
I'll get a license and purpose built mobile unit someday.
Thanks
Jim
I have not installed a light bar. However, those made by Carr look good. They clamp to the rain gutter rather than bolting thru the roof.
They are available in black powdercoat which could be painted if you're "going green" or chrome.
Here is a link to Carr light bars for for Blazers at...
Sounds Russkie but its Japanese.
From Wikipedia:
FRG-7 is the designation given to a HF communications receiver designed and built by Yaesu of Japan in the late 1970s.
Popularly known as the 'Frog Seven', it was one of the first commercial SWL receivers to utilise a triple-conversion...

Thanks for the input.
The unit does not have a mechanical lock on the tuner so I'm sure you're right - it would drift while the vehicle was moving.
I have the receiver. I have an M1009. The M1009 has this large, empty radio shelf and an empty antenna bracket.....
I wonder how...
Does anyone have experience with a vehicle mounted Yaesu FRG-7 receiver?
Specifically, if placed on a GI radio shock mount is this radio durable enough for mobile use?
A HAM license is on my to-do list. Until then a receiver will do.
Thanks
Jim
Rubber parts including tires are degraded by:
Heat
UV light
Oxygen
Ozone
These four factors cause chemical reactions in the rubber which breaks the long polymer molecules down into progressively shorter pieces.
The visual evidence of this can be seen in the sidewalls and tread of tires on...
An advantage of steam cleaners is that it can get the metal being cleaned hot enough to quickly evaporate any water left on on the surface and in nooks/crannies. Thin flash rust might still occur on bare metal but nothing severe.
Need to avoid overheating stuff like rubber and plastic...
I appreciate all the accurate info I can get. In this case, it just wasn't in the book.
I'm 25 miles from the nearest parts store. I've made way to many return trips to swap the wrong part for the right one when working on standard civilian stuff much less a morphodite like a CUCV. I hated...
I was under the impression (read it somewhere, I'm sure) that the M1009 had a heavy duty suspension not found on the civi K5. And aren't the axles different, too?
That was my impression as well. The tech manuals do not cover info like this because the military had its own parts system...

Lot of basic info on radial engines. Of particular interest to me was the info on the Lycoming XR-775 which is near the bottom of the linked page.
The article is below but I suggest...
You can start by looking at the -20P TM.
I could.
I have a hard copy of the -10. I have downloaded all 940 pages of the -20 and all 724 pages of -20P. I do not have them memorized yet, but I do not recall seeing anything about 1/2T, 3/4T, K20 or K30.
The part numbers are listed there...

No luck with this in forum search.
I need to be able to communicate with parts guys and mechanics regarding the M1009.
Questions:
(1) Are the M1009 frame, suspension & axles standard GM civilian items?
(2) If so are they 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? . Does the K20/K30 nomenclature relate...
I like that better than a jerry can for that spot.
Never saw a SAW ammo can. Looks big for 5.56mm. Is the can made for those throw away belt boxes that attach to the weapon?
Regards
Jim
The base looked like it was made for a jerry can bracket but I had a hard time believing they would put one in the crew compartment. Like you said, maybe for water.
I doubt that the sheet metal could handle the weight of 5 gal of fuel or water. Probably ought to bolt the can brackets to the...
My '86 M1009 has a bracket on the floor in the cargo area, left side, behind wheel well. It sits up about 3" off the floor and its flat surface is about 6"x10". It looks factory.
Anybody know what this was intended for?
I do not see it in the -10 Operators manual.
Thanks
Jim
I'm sometimes simply AMAZED that I somehow survived my youth!
SOMEONE must have been watching out for me, cuz I did a lot of things that should have had me pushing up daisies LONG AGO!
You and me both.
I finally convinced myself that if you give the Lord enought shots at you, sooner or...
