CTIS schrader valve and kneeling valve assembly

My left rear tire is leaking down slowly over 2 days or so. I initially found a leak where the kneeling valve meets the valve stem for the tire. After disassembly re-assembly there I found the kneeling valve to be leaking. Cycling the valve seemed to only make things worse. Tonight I took it...

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

ok after some google searching I found the local cat dealer has it for some $38 and I did find one for under $20 shipped so that's a good deal. Is there any pressing reason the dealer sells parts so much higher than available elsewhere? Should I worry about getting sub standard parts?

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

On some other posts people talk about replacing the valve cover gasket. Do you think that is necessary every time I get in there?

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

Has anyone found any documentation on the valve adjustment interval? I can't find anything for road going vehicles only the marine engines.

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

Ok Cat recommends 250, 500, 1000 hours for service. The formulas I'm finding online are like: As far at what you were asking: Just use the figure 1 mile per minute, no matter theengine speed. One MPM = 60 MPH since there are 60 minutes in an hour. Thus, your 4,000 hours on the hour meter would...

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

After more reading about the procedure and "special" tools required I found this great article. http://schoolbusmechanic.blogspot.com/2006/08/diesel-mechanic-cat-3116-valve-and.html It looks like the only tools required are: *Dial Indicator # 1U-8869 *Contact Point # 9U-7274 *Feeler Guage #...

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

Ok I just read the procedure. It says to insert the timing bolt. The required tools does not mention this bolt. It looks like a longer version of the plug bolt. Does anyone know it's size?

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

I just found a cat 3116 for marine engines and it says valve adjust every 2000 hours. I figure that's 12k miles. Does that sound right?

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

I was able to find the toolkit mentioned on google. Looking at photos of it I don't see the shim form setting the fuel rack in it. Can you confirm it is everything that is needed?

yeah agreed. I need to find the root cause.

My new LMTV is blowing water pumps and loosing alternator brackets!

Possible good long term solutions. 1. bigger bolt so less slop 2. use a nord lock washer to avoid vibrating the fastener appart 3. use a castle nut or safety wire 4. modify/replace L bracket with 2 ears or a stop so it rests under compression 5. figure out why the engine is shaking so much and...

My new LMTV is blowing water pumps and loosing alternator brackets!

On mine it's the generator ear then a L bracket. Bolt goes straight through to a lock nut. I'll get a photo next time.

My new LMTV is blowing water pumps and loosing alternator brackets!

So did another 100 mile trip in the truck and lost the same bolt. M8 1.25 x 40. I'm had a spare and put it in when I got home. I'm going to go measure the hole because I think the bolt is actually not big enough (slop in the hole). Has anyone else find a bigger bolt that fits?

    slow leak in tire

To recap. I can upload from tapatalk just fine and I guess after upload I could edit by importing from URL that tapatalk posts the photo to. Is there any way to just directly upload from my laptop? I found the button but the confirm after picking photo never appears.

    slow leak in tire

So it looks like someone used that valve as a step. I bent it back. Next day tire had more air but still low. Chances are good it's a leaky valve.

I can't upload from desktop unless the image is at a URL already. I could setup photobucket or something. Is there any way to direct upload? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
