I've found the adapters made by Motorola match the impedance so it isn't an issue. I also have adapters from David Clark that connect to quite a few different radios. David Clark part #C6008 is designed to work with HT 1000 radios and should let you plug your headset right in.

The local radio shack usually has those fuses as well.

Most headset manufacturers make adapters that enable them to be used with different types of radios. I would look at the manufactures website first and see what is available. Motorola also makes adapters for just about any kind of headset to plug into their radios.
