Well, I think I've found out the main reason why the genset wouldn't run. I pulled the IP off the set last night to find that the gear face on the pump is pretty well seized up. With a pair of channellocks and some force I can rotate the gear, but it's really tight. There's evidence of wear on...
I'm trying to pull the IP off my MEP-003 to check the IP out, but I can't figure out how the throttle linkage gets disconnected to pull the IP. The TM just says "disconnect the throttle lnkage", but doesn't say how. I've tried lightly prying the ball joint off and that didn't work. Any tips on...
Pretty much so long as you have adequate ventilation from the front of the units to the back and route the exhaust outside it should be fine. The TM specifies how much fresh air the unit requires.
I'm definitely using 24 volts to power the genset. I don't have batteries dedicated to it yet, so I pull the whole battery box out of the deuce and use it to power the genset.
Thanks derf, I knew starters weren't supposed to smoke. rofl I still don't know why it is, but I'm inclined to say it's not exclusive to the starter itself because I got a second, used starter and it does the same thing, just not as bad. The original starter could only turn the motor in 2/3rds...
Checking valve clearances is on the agenda. I pulled the valve covers, and the tops of the heads were bone dry and look like they've never had any oil up there. I didn't have any feeler gauges to check the clearances with, so I didn't adjust them then. This machine never fails to surprise me. It...
I'm working on getting my MEP-003 genset running. It has not run since I got it from GL and was missing an injector line, and various other lines were disconnected. It also looks like the IP was pulled at some point.
Anyways, I decided to try to turn the motor over by hand with the blower...
Runtimes can vary from hours to weeks. It's primarily for hurricanes, and as such power outages can last weeks in a Katrina-like situation. Fueling it for that long could be an issue, but I'd run it as long as possible and neccesary.
I wanted to renew this post in hopes to get some more qualified opinions. I have now more solidified what my plans are for this generator.
First, this generator's primary goal will to be to power a shop and 3 campers that are attached to the shop's power. The shop has a transfer switch that...
An MEP-701A is just a MEP-016B with an ASK on it. From what I understand, because the ASK is so involved to install, it's a depot-level job and it gets a new model number as a result.
I figured that was the way to get it done, I just didn't know what the military had in mind to get it filled. I'm glad it's way up there so it doesn't get whacked by anything, it's just a pain to service as a result.
This seems like a stupid question, but I'm gonna ask it anyhow. I know where the master cylinder is on the M105 trailer, but my question is how am I expected to fill it? On mine, the master cylinder is only maybe 3-4 inches off the bottom of the bed, hardly enough to get a bottle up to and have...
Seems to me like the idle's a little low or the alt's not putting out the specified power at idle and when the additional load of the compressor hits the engine, the rpms rise enough to bring the alt voltage up to where it should be.
According to the pics if they are accurate, that is a MEP-003 10Kw generator. The 002s do have 1 exhaust versus 003s that have 2. The 002 is a 2 cylinder, and the 003 is a 4 cylinder that's essentially the exact same thing as a 002 plus 2 cylinders.
