Snorkel Update: I found a pic online of a guy that has a '86 K20 with a snorkel on it. I sent him a PM asking what he used and he said it is a Safari Snorkel for a Land Cruiser FJ80. It doesn't look like a totally perfect fit, but close enough for me. Really, the only difference was that...
Step 1: I received the kit today! Yeah! Feel kinda' like a little kid here. A couple of questions though. The guy we bought it from said I still need to get the following parts:
91419 x2 Stainless collet lock nut
41501 x1 Filter
64001 x1 Pyrometer kit (you will only need the probe from...
UPDATE: bought a rebuilt Banks Sidewinder (almost) complete kit off epay, says all I will need are a couple of small misc. parts and a new pyro and gauge. Just waiting for it to show up and will update my progress during the install.
Thanks! What a pain in the rear end (not the 14ff, either) this has been! Next project for sure. I think I looked at it quickly once and didn't do anything about it. I need to look at it again, but I think I have a stripped screw holding the cover on, or something stupid like that.
Don't mean to hijack here, but I've been interested in this as well. I've had issues with my headlight fuse, had to supply new 12v+ to it with an inline fuse. It got me thinking though. I'm really interested in sealing this baby up tight electrically and adding a snorkel then re-routing all...
SAVE IT! Nice little project you've got there. Doghead Relay Mod, new seat, new batteries and starter relay mod, replace all of the hoses and clean clean clean the electrical! You'll have yourself a nice old truck there.
There's a temp sensor on the top of the motor towards the firewall on the driver's side. The glow plug controller card uses it to determine when and how long to fire the glow plugs. If you're having trouble with your glow plugs not cycling when they should this could be one reason. I don't have...
See, THAT's What I'm talking about. I'd love to be able to do something similar. Do you have more detail on this project? Do you have a thread on this or pics or anything?
I can't really tell which motor that is (I'm on my iPhone right now, small screen. Is it a 6.5?). But actually I've been thinking down those same lines. If it is possible to get decent results without a ton of extra cost and headaches, I'd like to try the 6.5 take-off turbo route, but if it's...
That's right. It would be super sweet to get a Banks, but just not a reality right now. I was hoping to grab as much as I could off a 6.5 and make it work. Anyone do this? Is it more trouble than it's worth?
So, I have a really good friend that also happens to be slightly loaded and very generous. Everyone should have a friend like this, I highly recommend it. Anyway, I have a birthday coming up and he offered to put a turbo on my truck for me as a gift! I couldn't be happier! Talk about an...
Thanks man, it's been a lot of fun. The hardest part for me too is just finding good legal spots to wheel this thing. I really haven't had a chance to see what it can really do yet myself. I've been trying to get in contact with some local off-roading clubs to get a few trips under my belt...
Keep building them! A set of these is definitely on my list of "must-have's". Winters are tough on the pay checks around here though. Once I get back to making good money I'll be getting a hold of you.
I'm interested in doing the same thing here (snorkel and some type of exhaust help) too. Some have mentioned waterproofing the electrics, but no one has posted any suggestions on how to actually do this. I've talked briefly with a guy I met that has mud trucks, he said they use silicone spray...
