Its not in a park. Its at an abandoned mine though. It doesn't look like the mine has been used since the '60s or '70s. The odd thing about the truck, besides the awful cab is someone took the axle shafts and third members off front and rear. How hard would it be to find replacements? Would it...
Thanks for the encouragement guys... The guy in the cab wasn't any help. He was too busy making motor noises. The cool thing about actually recovering this truck is you can drive right up to it with a car trailer. Hmmmmmm next time I'm over there I'll go to the Forest Service office and ask...
My father was out exploring in he woods and found a truck. He called me all excited trying to figure out what it was. He emailed me some pics and I was able to identify it back in 2006. I was recently visiting him and he took me up to where the truck sits. I would love to drag it home and give...
I looked at this thread to see where the new guy in NorCal is... Wow, Tracy is NorCal?? Just teasing... I think most people think they're in NorCal when they come down the grapevine into Bakertucky. Welcome to the site.
I think the 203 and 205 is the best route for me. I can round up the parts over time and not drop a huge chunk all at once. It gives plenty of options for gearing and adapter length. If I wanted to down the road I could add the Lomax gears to the 205, but I think stock transfer case gears in the...
It was all I could do to keep my daughter Dahliah away from the truck while I worked on it. She will throw a fit if I don't take her for a ride in it. This pic is my background on my laptop:cool:
Edit: The LTBs rock by they way. I highly recommend them. 10oz of balancing powder in each one and...
Here is some pics of my M1008 that I recovered from Barstow last year with my father. It has 4in Tuff Country HD leaves, zero rates, and HD shackles in the front. In the rear is a 2 1/2in shackle flip with a 6in shackle and a zero rate. I also added cross-over steering, steering box brace, and...
Go to your local tire store and see if they have any used tires available. Alot of tiime guys move up to larger tires before wearing them out. You might pick up a set for cheap.
I found a pair of Duece wheel and tires in the back of my M1008, along with a oil drain pan, and wheel chock. In the cab I found a set of keys with all the keys on it. It even had an ignition key on it. Behind the front seat was a fully charged fire extinguisher and flare kit.
I just figured I'd put it out there for people to see, you never know they might have some good parts on them.... I got a real kick out of the $8500 Duece they have there.... I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for that, if it ran.
When I was living down in Salinas I would go past this surplus store all the time. It's called J&S Surplus. They've got a pair of M880's out front for sale. $500.00 each. One is desert camo and the other is green. They didn't look to be in to bad of condition. I'm sure they don't run. The store...
I think that 2600 miles put on a vehicle while getting to see this great country would be worth it. What is the difference between 2600 a little at a time or in a week or two anyway?? Isn't the point of this hobby to drive and enjoy our MV's?? I had a ball with my Dad just towing an MV 800...
I just towed a M1008 over 800 miles with a tow bar from U-Haul. They don't rent them, they only sell. I towed with my crewcab 1500. We hooked the tow bar to the lifting shackle mounts using some grade 8 bolts and some washers. Just make sure everything is nice and tight some it doesn't wiggle...
RE: Re: RE: More pics
Yep, I'm really happy with it. I looked it over real good while I was underneath taking off the driveshaft, not a spot of rust anywhere. No big dents, new shocks, and good tires. The only bummer is they moved it with a forklift and dinged the driveshaft.
RE: More pics
I was treated alright by the guys inside, however the guard at the gate was a real jerk until I showed him my Peace Officer ID. Next time I'm down in Hemet we'll have to get together... my wife loves shopping in Temecula...

Here is some more pics...
There was a pair of Duece and a Half tires with good tread in the back of the truck. I sold them to a guy that was picking up three Dueces before we even left the yard.
