How on Earth else am I going to get to ride in one of the coolest pieces of armor in Texas?
Objective advice? You buy it, I ride for free! That's pretty objective!
Hee-hee!

Suck it in!
Sam and Rory, really glad you made it back with no problems!
I sat by the phone all day waiting for the bad phone call.
No, not entirely true, I worked all day on the Gama Goat but I listened for the phone call to saddle up and go rescue you.
So, being 6' 3" and 275lbs with size...
Dolly sets
IronViking, the photo you posted is an M832 dolly set. Even though it is a 690/691.
The M832 applies to the entire dolly set, the front half is an M830 and the back half is an M831.
It can handle a 5 ton load. It is not built to move shipping containers, rather it is for hauling...
There is one more important thing I forgot to point out.
Devilman96 wrote the above reply to my question about where to get the switches and a speedo;
"Saturn for around 20$... The speedo can be had from anywhere."
Followed by a link to Saturn's website page showing the switch I needed.
What...
Okay, if you are bored, read on, if you are busy, go to the next post.
I like to give credit where credit is due, this is not the first time that Devilman96 has pulled my buns out of the fire and it’s probably not the last.
I did search for my switches for hours before posting the question as to...
Okay guys, I've used the search function, I've consulted TM9-2320-242-34P.
The 34P lists the 3 toggle switches (wipers & bilge pump) as P/N MS39061-1 and FSN 5930-00-296-6318 (Figure 57 item 2)
So here is the big question!
Anybody have any idea where I can buy 3 of these switches?
Heck, while...
RE: repainting
jpinst, if you have the time, read this topic:

Because I'm a numbnuts, I don't know how to post a link correctly, but I think if you cut and paste the one above will get you...
M725
Yes, regular Texas title and plate still attached.
Looking at the tax sticker on the windshield, it last ran in 1998.
He bought it in 1989.
I have not seen the title, but I'll tell him to bring it with the 725 to me.
-Sarge
Well, I'm kind of confused (nothing new there) about exactly where I should post this, so here it is. If this is the wrong place, oh well, better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.
I just posted this on the 715 zone, but I know this is a wider audience, are you ready?
Here we go!
Okay...
AF markings
Glenn, Crash_AF is right on the money.
Because I'm a know-it-all, I'll elaborate.
52FW is the 52nd Fighter Wing.
Every Air Base (AB) overseas, or every Air Force Base (AFB) stateside belongs to a Wing.
There are Fighter Wings, Bomber Wings and many other types of Wings. There are...
Green Fever
Steve,
I don't need another military vehicle, I don't need another military vehicle.
I don't need another military vehicle, I don't need another military vehicle.
I don't need another military vehicle, I don't need another military vehicle.
I don't need another military vehicle, I...
Unimogs
David, Unimogs are fun!
Typical German over-engineering equals difficult maintenance.
I don't own a Mog, but I have a See frame and axles and also a few 404 axles.
It's my humble opinion that Mog axles are some of the best axles ever made.
But you already know this.
Mogs are low speed...
USAF M1009 markings
I've attached two pictures of a USAF M1009, the doors are marked correctly for the 80's except one stencil is missing. Underneath the "84K32" there should be 1" stencils reading "FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY"
On the back of the vehicle, the lower left corner was marked with the...
So Sarge found a good deal on 6 Gama Goat tires on rims.
A fellow SS member sold me the almost new tires located in Dyersburg Tennessee.
I live very near to Austin, Texas.
He was working a deal with a shipping company (HIT) in Dyersburg, but the deal just fell through due to high diesel prices...
RE: Unit & photo
Oooops!
Yeah, I forgot.
Jason, you are correct, we used tan paint to paint the 'V' on the green trucks.
Again, just rattlecans or paintbrushes.
Another thing we did with paint that was strange.
We painted some trucks by dipping mops into 5 gallon paint cans and just mopping it...
Unit & photo's
Emmado, I was stationed with the 4th SOG under V corps, but for the duration of the Storm I was TDY with the 8th SOG. We were FACP's. Mostly turtleback fire support and softskins with GRC-206 pallets.
Funny story about that....
We had just converted from 151's to Humvee's. We...
Emmado, I'm sure that the government had exact specifications on how to mark friendly vehicles during Desert Storm. Truth is, our unit never got anything other than a faxed message saying that we had to mark our doors with an inverted black 'V'. No size was given, no dimensions. When the fax...
WOW! Flashback!!!!
When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought about an issue of PS magazine that I read 30 years ago.
So then I open the thread and Cranetruck (Bjorn) has posted a picture that has been in my noggin all these years.
I was forced to use the federal supply system for...
