    Flashing Gen Lights (Both)

The opposite is more likely, bad alternator would overheat the batteries and boil out the water, in a really bad overcharge the batteries will balloon and may even blow up. If your battery is not sealed and you can remove the caps and check the fluid level, if it is low, that further points to...

    Flashing Gen Lights (Both)

Not to my knowledge, post 5 pic 3 shows what you would be getting into, if you only changed the voltage regulator which is under the brush cartridge and the resistor, you could do it in well under an hour- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?60299-CUCV-Alternator-Rebuild-Question i had...

    Flashing Gen Lights (Both)

It is only about a dozen parts and the screws to hold them together, a $40 parts kit and a press is the only sophistication needed. Just take pictures as you disassemble, you can get the basics from the Delco Remy website, I would say if you can rebuild a brake drum, this is easier. The only...

    Flashing Gen Lights (Both)

I would rebuild them, ASP wholesale has the kits, it takes a bit of patience as you need to make sure to keep the isolated grounds in tact (isolating washers on all terminals). The problem with replacing them is the replacement will be an inferior chinese clone, they are no longer made, so for...

    Flashing Gen Lights (Both)

From my understanding the voltage regulator limits the output to a max of 14.8v. That is what I gathered from the specs for the heavy duty regulator that asp wholesale includes in the rebuild kit. My general understanding is that is max and the steady state should be closer to 14.4v

Does anyone know what is this for on M1009?

There is a chance I have the hardware. I will need to dig through the pile of Cucv crap I have. When I got mine the jack, spare and that hardware was missing. I replaced it off eBay and hillbilly wizard piece by piece. Later when I re did the interior I ended up finding parts of that hardware...

Does anyone know what is this for on M1009?

That is the cover for the fill pipe to the fuel tank, the clip on it is used to retain the crank for the jack and lug wrench (jack is under the passenger seat). Their is a bolt and a bar that attach to the clip.

    Steering issue input needed

Thanks guys! U joints could be, it was a mil surp crate axel and it was covered in a red primer that had been a problem for the brake calipers, they would jam on the guidepins until I broke them down and cleaned and greased them. Everything is right to torque specs, that was one of my first...

    Steering issue input needed

Fwiw, I want to fix it as it can be frightening, I have had incidents on rural 2 lane highways where I come off a flat bridge onto a banked curve and have to quickly correct to avoid oncoming traffic, I have had plenty of cars in my life so I know some correction is always needed but the degree...

    Steering issue input needed

The steering box, shaft, tie rod and ends, leaf spring bushing, sway bar bushings, shocks, dampener, are all replaced within the last 2 years and the axle is a nos replacement mil surp. Tires are also fairly new and I had an alignment done when the tires were replaced. When I got it the...

    Gen light issue

I wanted to update this as my last solution did not last, I found that if the battery discharged a bit the strobing would go away but the excitor connections were not the culprit. In the end it was the main battery cable to the 12v buss bar. While it tested fine and looked fine, my electrical...

    Voltmeter died

Are you sure the resistors have no contact to the gauge housing? Best way is to leave the old broken resistor under as an insulator.

    Glow plug Reamer Question

I started in diesels with the 80s Mercedes cars. The glow plug reamer is used because the prechambers are complicated and have a deflector between the injector and glow plug and the tip of the glow plug just fits in its pocket. To prevent a short you ream them on every change. It looks like a...

    Gen light issue

I was able to resolve this issue and it was quite simple. I had replaced the 2 pin connectors for each voltage regulator as mine were fairly corroded and cleaning didn't get me very far. In the rebuild kit from ASP Wholesale was a foam gasket square that inserts into the voltage regulator...

    Sqeaking Poly Bushes?

I have the energy suspension bushings in my sway bar and front leafs, no squeaks that I can hear. That said, the doc tells me I have substantial hearing loss in what he calls the range of the human female voice. When asked if I wanted a hearing aid I said no thanks but a note explaining that...

    Gen light issue

Thanks, I have an NOS Stanadyne assembly so I will try swapping that and see if that solves the wiper motor issue and check my wiring while I am at it. I'll probably get flamed for not doing a spin on but I honestly like the Stanadyne unit. Ugh, that will be the 3rd time I've rebuilt my alts...

    Gen light issue

I removed my capacitor set between the 24v buss bars, no dice. The issue has gotten worse so even on short drives at low speed the gen lights come on. I do have another puzzle piece. Turning on the heater blower stops this problem. If it is on either of the lowest two speeds the gen 1 light...

    Door Panel Paint Source?

The center console is polyethylene, a notoriously difficult plastic to paint. It is molded with colored plastic and not painted. I researched the heck out of it before painting mine. 1) sand it with 80 grit and go over it with a wire brush on a drill at low speed. The goal of this is to make...

Gen 1 light & alternator troubleshooting

I would fix it ASAP, don't end up like I did, frying your starter, batteries and fusible links from starting with too low a voltage and having the starter solenoid weld up. It is a pain in the butt to repair as your starter and alts have to be rebuilt, many fusible links replaced, the batteries...

    M1009 Spare Wheel

I had the same dilemma, I ended up buying a pair of optional wide rims from a 76 Blazer, they are the same size as the CUCV M1009 rim, the only notable difference is the valve stem position. I only needed one, the seller was only selling them as a pair, I paid $200 for the pair thinking someday...
