Thinking of trying a rancho 4" lift kit spring in the front of my M1028 to try to level it out (not going to install the 4" block in the rear).
I figure that the back of this truck sits about 2" higher than the front. With any luck the 6.2 will compress the spring down a few inches and
and make...
I've also have a 454 TBI motor I've been thinking about installing in one of my M1028's.
I'm leaning towards using a carb but if I go TBI I will use a harness from Painless Wiring.
Painless makes stand alone harnesses for fuel inj conversions (TPI, TBI, Vortec, LS1).
My 81 stepside uses a...
That 14 bolt is a great upgrade for your truck? Do you have any problems with your rear brakes locking up under hard braking cond?
I've been down that road before and found that a Willwood adjustable proportioning valve is a great fix.
In the last few months I picked up 2 M1028's from the GSA auctions.
The first 1 has 47K on it and I paid $1500 (truck with the low cap).
The second one has 15K on it and I paid $1800 (truck with high cap).
Both of these trucks run and drive great. I'm sure they will both need a few things that...
Sometimes it's tough to get the parts guy to spend the time looking up small parts that are not a big money maker.
A good parts guy is a must trying to keep old vehicles on the road.
I got new ones from Napa over the summer.
I was out in the garage checking out my M1028 that I got last week and I noticed that the directionals work without the key in the on position. Checked my other M1028 and it does the same thing.
Is this normal? If so what was the reason behind it?
Like you said, you might be just as well off buying a truck at auction for the axles. Last week at the GSA auction in Mass they had a M1028 that was a running and driving truck (rusty) that sold for $1100.
I think you would spend that much on 1 ton axles alone. I'm kicking myself for not buying...
If your using a floor jack to lower/lift the trans you may need a big block of wood if your working on a lifted truck.
It may also help to get 2 long bolts that will screw into the back of the block. You can cut the heads off the bolts and use them to help line up the trans.
GL does seem like they have more trucks than the GSA but I just like the GSA because you can inspect it, bid on it, and drive it home that day.
I may bid on an M1009 from GL in the future but I think the waite for the EUC would kill me.
$1800.
I'm still new to this and trying to figure out why more people don't buy from GSA Vs. GL. Theres no auction fee's and you can hear them run.
You can bid on it and drive it home that day.
Since buying my first M1028 a few months ago I'm starting to get hooked on them.
I picked up my second 1 today at a GSA auction.
It's a real solid truck showing 15K on it.
Ran great on the way home but I did notice the "wait to start light" does not come on.
It starts fine (it was 50 degrees out...
These are the responses I was looking for.
I just got my M1028 with 47K on it at a dealers only auction for $1500.
I have to admit I didn't do any research on it until after I bought it and found this site, which has been very helpful (a big thanks too all of you).
I've been playing around with...
Although i'm new to this site it seems like allot of members have just aquired there current cucv. I've also noticed that most of the seem to have low miles. Most of the M1008's and M1028's seem to have 30K-50K on them when purchesed while many of the M1009's are up to about 90K on them.
Do any...
