What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

    That sounds reasonable.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Started great again this am, just over freezing. Maybe 2-3 sec of cranking. I’ll start work on making a gp removal tool this weekend. At the bagel shop: ETA: I also have the gp solenoid fed directly from the front battery so I won't have cascading gp failures. I don't understand the point of...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

My 09 had gotten hard to start. Had the symptoms of bad gp’s. Preemptively ordered a new set of Bosches. Ended up ohm’ing the gp’s and also testing with a test light and all 8 seem fine. Which is good as the only three I unscrewed where swollen and stuck so I put them back. The PO put a spin...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Now that my thermostat and radiator cap are working the tank to core seam on my radiator spring a small leak. I pulled the radiator, filled it with water and pressurized it with a bike pump. About an inch of the seam bubbled. I wirewheeled it to bare metal, brushed on some acid, neutralized...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It’s been cold here lately and the 09 had tepid heat at best. Sunday I shot the crossover pipe with an IR gun and it was barely 100 deg after idling for an hour. Of course I broke both thermostat housing bolts... Lots of attempts at welding a nut to the studs but I finally gave up. Put the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

After lots of wiring issues, rusty floor boards and a seat upgrade, I got my VA state inspection today.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I recently repaired a patch for a beacon penetration. FYI: don't use a dinner plate patch for three small holes, and don't use flux core to make leaky weld buggers, all while making huge dents resulting from kneeling on the roof. :-x One of the numerous electrical problems I have with my...

2011 Graves Mountain Virginia Rally - Labor Day Weekend

I got the truck off the road and back home. I need to rebuild the tranny as the input shaft rattles in its bearing and I couldn't extract the very worn out pilot bushing. I don't see getting all of that done in time, and I don't want to be stranded 150mi from home, we will not be able to go this...

2011 Graves Mountain Virginia Rally - Labor Day Weekend

The last item on my maintenance list was to simply get an inspection. I went to Rusty Sours place and on my way home my clutch exploded. I was on 11 and lost my transmission completely. Fortunately I was cresting a hill and coasted off the road by a field. When I opened up the inspection...

    A few Minor Mods

I have used regular contact cement spray to stick down stencils and power washed it off when the paint was dry. Currently I have vinyl decals printed at the local sign shop. All of the markings on my truck cost $50, the various stars and all of the bumper numbers.

2011 Graves Mountain Virginia Rally - Labor Day Weekend

We will be leaving from Roanoke around 4:30pm on the 2nd due to work commitments. I haven't decided if we are going up 81, 11, or 29. I don't know if anyone is taking a similar route at a similar time, we could convoy up.

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

The spoil of my toil. I got around 30psi in the tire and the bead seated on the lock ring, but the ring wasn't seated well. I sledged it one more time and it seated. I let all of the air out of the tire to relax any tube wrinkles and the ring came out a bit, but once aired up again it is firmly...

    How To: Hub Flip

I just did the hub flip on my truck, it was already singled out with the wheels dish out. I bought new lug nuts from CRW for around $1ea, this is the best price I have found. Most of the MV websites wanted $3-$6ea. All of the truck and tire shops in my area get there lug nuts from CRW so I was...

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

It sounds like I have 2 choices, put the ring back on as best as I can, flip it over well chained, and air it up, or drive 4hrs and get a new rim that hopefully I won't tweak the lock ring when breaking it down... Or the third choice would be to put the ring back on and flip the wheel and pull...

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

I've been offered a free rim/ring that's 2 hrs away. Unless I can find something closer I'll try to get it this weekend. Btw, a family friend was killed when a split rim split a few years ago. Very sad, he was airing it up on the truck when it let go. I chain them when I can, always stand to...

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

It isn't in the frame, but it is chained in 4 of the 6 holes and the sides of the lock ring are under the engine hoist that is sitting on the tire pulling up on the rim.

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

I am a bit paranoid that if it doesn't seat and comes apart I will be out the $35 I spent on the tube and the cops will probably show up from the bang. I see a lot of pictures where the ring is fully seated before airing up, and just want to make sure.

    Deuce tire/rim break down.

I spent the last 3 hours trying to install the lock ring on my spare tire. I had a rim w/o a lockring, a SS member sent me a lock ring for postage and I finally got around to putting it together. I cannot get the ring to seat at the end, I have beat on it so much I think it's done for. I can get...

Transfer case won't shift into low

Having made 1 xfer case from 3, I would not take it apart in place. The level of disassembly required would not make it worth while. There isn't really anything that should keep it from going into gear, usually you have the opposite problem where is pops out of gear. If you have a bad syncro...
